This Tar Pit Explorer kit really entertained my kids both the younger and the older ( 8yr old) they really thought it was cool as they got their fingers all slimy as all kids love the messier the better. I gave the kids a old shirt to wear, laid out newspapers and help assemble it then stood back and watch them have fun digging out the bones of 2 skeletons of dinosaurs. There are other kits similar to this one that I will for sure be looking into buying, one called Moon in my room that he has asked to get as they show it on the back of the package, great Christmas gift idea!
My two sons had a blast playing with this Dr. Steve Hunters Tar Pits Explorer Slime Dig Kit with the Saber Tooth Tiger vs. Mammoth. It is the perfect toy for my boys because it combines two things that they love slime and dinosaurs. I as a mom love how education and hands on this toy is. The set comes with a plastic base that hold the slime and dinosaur bones and also a really neat background. My boys had alot of fun searching through the slime for all of the dinosaur bones. The slime is black and has a wet feeling. It seems thinner or more runny than most slime. I think that's because it is supose to be a tar pit. My boys loved it! They had so much fun searching for all the bones and then assembling the dinosaurs. Some of the pieces were a little hard to snap together so they needed my help. Overall my kids really enjoyed playing with this and have played with it several times. It's alot of fun a d the slime comes in a re-sealable bag. I would reccomend it to everyone.
The game is super fun for all ages and it is a great learning experience for the young ones. It is a great game for the kids that love dinosaurs and or slime. It comes with dinosaur bones and you put them together which makes it a very educational game and you dig through the slime to find all the bones for a sabertooth tiger in a mammoth and then as you go do you learn fun facts about the creatures so it makes it very educational but yet fun at the same time. It's a good game for boys and girls of all ages and an amazing family game for family game night
Played with the Tar Pits Explorer Slime Dig Kit with my 9-year-old nephew. He had a blast! It was difficult at first to put together. You need to read the instructions before you start to assemble. Once the set is assembled either set (comes with a Saber Tooth Tiger or Mammoth), it's fun to read the educational cards that come with it. This is where the learning begins! I would say for younger kids, they'll definitely need help and they must be supervised since some of the pieces are quite small. The tar pit slime was cool to see! We had fun messing with it. It was easy to put back in the bag to use for another day. I don't recommend keeping the slime out for too long or it'll dry out. Took us about an hour to do both and read the cards. This toy can definitely keep a kid preoccupied especially if they don't receive any assistance in building it. I highly recommend this toy as a gift. Kids will LOVE it! This toy will expose them to a new world while also stimulating their minds as they connect the bones to build a Mammoth or Saber Tooth Tiger.
My nephew really enjoyed this product. He loves dinosaurs and he loves to dig stuff out. The only think I will say about this product is that there are alot of parts to it so you have to keep up with it that way you dont lose them. Its a very cool toy and educational
I got this for my grandson who is a dinosaur over. He had a blast with this. It is easy to use and not messy at all. I will be on the look out for more like this. Very entertaining and educational.
sparkreview: recived this Tar Pits Explorer kit! Took it to group review of middle school kids. They really liked the slimy tar pit. Once they made the slime, they had fun trying to find the bone and reassemble the bones into the correct animal. Some of the parts were hard to snap together, but they had fun doing it. They had fun pulling the bones out of the tar pit with the tools to free the remains of these prehistoric rivals trapped in final battle. The kit includes everything you need - tar pit slime and base, model skeleton bones, extraction tool, informational poster, and detailed instructions.
Positive that your kids will enjoy playing with the black stuff looking for the dinosaur fossils. They do need to wear gloves as the instructions recommend and to not get any of the black stuff on your eyes, mouth or nose while playing. Definitely look at the age recommendation of 6+. The fact sheet on the saber tooth tiger and the mammoth were very interesting. The instructions are small print. An adult definitely has to help put the fossil parts together as the instructions are pretty sparse. Also the parts don't snap together easily. I gave up so a child would have a problem. As I said the kids had fun just going through the slimy stuff looking for the bones and that was entertaining.
I got this for my 7 year old grandson's birthday. He loves it and has fun looking for the bones in the black slime. His mother was not happy with more slime so I will probably keep it here at my home. The bones were easy to put together and we could make it permanent with a little glue which we may do after the newness wears off or I get tired of the slime.
My little niece and nephew love this, but my sister doesn't care for it so much, probably due to the slime but the kids love it so bonus on making the parents crazy.
