Three of the best features are - the quick release chuck so you do not have to use the wrench changing accessories, the ability to keep rpm constant when working and the increase in power. I also like the quality and smoothness of the tool. It is bigger than my previous Dremel, however once I used it for a while it was no big deal. Small price to pay for the new features. The versatility of this tool can not be underestimated.
I bought this about a month ago specifically for my gun smithing hobby. I used the Dremel with the flexible shaft to get into small spots for detailed material removal and I have to say it did exactly what I needed to. As a bonus, I was able to use accessories to polish metal parts and bring out the best finish I have ever done.
I had a Dremel tool for years and used it a lot. I work on small machines and the Dremel was the best tool for use in so many circumstances. After about eight years of use the motor burnt out. I tried to get by with other tools but they just couldn't get the job done. Since I replaced my Dremel, I've used it many times and I feel great knowing that I once again have the right tool for the job.
I have owned a few other drills, and this is by far the best. It has power and is easy to adjust and to hold it steady. I use it to drill small 2mm holes and larger 6mm holes for various sea glass projects. Not a single mess up with this drill!!! I am so happy that it changes bits easily and is exact, strong and reliable! Yay!
When I received the Dremel tool I did a visual inspection of it, made sure all parts were there, and they fit right. Pluged it in and turned it on checked all the speeds all checked good. Did noticed that some of the air vents were not completely opened, some were blocked by extra plastic and was not cut off before assembling, this will cause the motor to over heat. Also the fan has a wabble to it when spinning, may be caused by the hole was drilled off center or on a slant this can cause the tool to vibrate more at higher speeds. Being made with plastic parts may not last as long as metal, and can chip, crack, warp, and may not be as accurate as metal would be. I still consider this tool an over all Good tool.
Got a 4000 variable speed corded tool, used maybe 10 times in a year and went to use it and it won't turn on.
Got this as a gift for Christmas 2016, but used it for the first time around June of 2017. It quit working in January 2018... just dead when I turn on the switch. So my wife wasted a lot of money on it, unfortunately. I did some web searches for the problem and apparently this model has a faulty switch.
Replaced an OLD 400 XPR with this 4000. Don't make them like they 'used to'.. Despite a VERY GENTLE, meticulous Non-Load-Bearing break-in, starting at very low rpm's... the tool has a very erratic rotation. The few times I've used it since?? I need to BANG the tool just to get the motor turning!! When running, it still is quite an 'irregular' motor rotation.
I have both the Dremel 4000 and 3000. After about 3 days of short use the Dremel 3000 will only run at the highest speed, but it will turn on and off. The Dremel 4000 worked for about six months of very limited use but now it wont turn on at all. Out of two Dremel rotary tools purchase at the same time only one partially works and the other not at all. It looks as though Dremel quality no longer exists. Will have to look for alternative brand to replace my Dremel tools.
Very upset i only used it one time to cut a hole in sheetrock and it burned out on me had to finish with a hand saw i had good experience with one before this is a replacement but now i have second thoughts.
