Dremel 456-01 1-1/2 inch Fiberglass Reinforced Cut-Off Wheel for Metal, 10-Pack

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I use these primarily for cutting through hardened steel edges on skis and snowboards, custom fabricating my own diamond stones to save money on them, making my own scrapers, delam repair pressure plates, & whatever else may come along that they would be good for. These are basically the strongest ones that won't break if you keep your cutting line straight, and last longer as long as you keep consistently light pressure on them. That's true for all of them, really, but these are the strongest ones!

When restoring older bicycles, some of them, mainly 60's and 70's Schwinn's, have a special derailleur cable that has an end that is no longer manufactured. Well, thanks to the 456-01 Cut Off Wheel, you can grind a barrel head cable into a flat disc cable end in just a few seconds. Takes the headache out of trying to find some dude that has been hoarding cables and wants to gouge people and renders him useless. Thanks Dremel and thanks 456-01 cut off wheel. This walks around when starting a cut and is therefore difficult to keep on your line at the beginning. The guard attachment diameter exceeds that of the cutting wheel and so didn't allow me the clearance to make my cut. So I had to cut without the guard in place - not safe. The sparks, dust and filings being flung everywhere make this an outdoor use only tool - too messy to use in my basement. My jigsaw cut the metal straighter, with greater control and a more contained mess.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These cut well enough, but I've had them fail catastrophically under normal cutting conditions, with chunks of the disc striking my face. No major injuries, but I could see this hitting somebody in the eye if they're not wearing eye protection.
