I have had my new 8260 for about 6-8 weeks, and have had nothing but fun with it! This is my first but have many jobs lined up for it already. I want 2 spare batteries and a pet nail trimming kit. When I first started trying to buy it got lost and had to cancel 1st order to place new order. It did finally show up 8 weeks later. I am planning a motorcycle trip w/ a trailer behind, this is one tool that will be traveling w/ me for the next 16 months
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] All right it's time for an honest review, this Dremel model is not just good, it's amazing! At first I was a tad skeptical about their new claims: 100% more runtime than any other cordless model, 20% faster cutting speed vs the 8220 (Dremel's prior flagship cordless model), 20% more power than the 4300(Dremel's prior most powerful corded model), a lifetime warranty, and a Bluetooth app that not only connects to the tool but guides you through your projects with advice?!? After testing it for just a few days, I can say that I am no longer skeptical but also a believer! This tool really does live up to its current claims! It's the first rotary tool to posses a brushless motor. This naturally means more power and longer run time on the battery. How much runtime and power output, is really up to the engineering part of the process. Dremel really did their homework here, because not only is the tool light, but you can also tell that it automatically shifts variable speeds when it needs to, to keep the motor running smoothly and efficiently. The Battery as far as I can tell, is a 3ah (amp hour) lithium ion battery that charges pretty quickly. It clicks in and out of the actual tool, making it possible to posses more than one battery and maybe even batteries that have a greater amp hour. This tool is also the first of its kind to come equipped with a Bluetooth connection that communicates with your mobile device. With it, you can learn all sorts of useful information about the tool itself and the tasks you are going to accomplish. It will tell you battery life and even inform you if something goes wrong within the tool. If something does manage to occur, rest easy because this device also comes with a lifetime warranty! With it you can relax knowing that your investment is in good hands throughout the life of the tool. I am currently a general contractor, with some carpentry talent on the side. I tackle all kinds of tasks and problems in residential areas, and in my workshop, but I don't regularly take my current Dremel model (Dremel 4000) with me because it isn't cordless and doesn't really posses enough versatility. However with this new and more powerful compact design, I can finally say that I'd take this with me everywhere! We do a lot of jobs that sometimes require us to reroute copper pipes or replace them with pex lines. this is truly where this tool shines, because with it, I can cut copper pipes, pvc, and pex lines with ease! Now that this is possible, I don't need to bring along a portable bandsaw with me saving me time, room and money, which is a huge win! Outside of my occupation, I love to create walking sticks and Wizard staffs. The Dremel helps me put the finishing touches on a lot of my pieces. I like to make sure each one is unique for its owner. I use every sort of bit you could think of and would like to think I'm pretty knowledgeable. the app is very intuitive, and impressive, It even taught me a thing or two! In summary, I am very impressed with the overall experience and design that this new model brings to the table. I am very confident in saying that anyone who wields this tool will be impressed, and confident in their work as well. It's definitely a tool worth having for many different audiences!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Meet my cat Duchess. She's cute and adorable and is now 7 years old. But cats being cats, they sometimes like to scratch on things. We have some nice decorative posts in our bathroom that serve as a “divider” between the toilet and the vanity. And when Duchess was younger, she used to jump up on the vanity and use one of the posts as her personal scratching post. And as you can see in the first photos, she really dug into the wood. When I recently received the cordless 8260 Smart Rotary Tool I decided that fixing the post would be the first job I would tackle with it. The cordless tool is ideal for this job because I didn't need to plug it into an outlet (outlet is 8+ feet away). I started the job by sanding down the damaged area with the Dremel rotary tool. After sanding everything down, I then filled the damaged areas with wood putty and then let it dry overnight. The next day I used the Dremel rotary tool to sand down the rough wood putty in order to create a smooth surface that was ready for re-painting. The wood putty was very hard but the 8260 made fairly quick work of sanding it to a smooth surface. And, as can be seen in the last couple of photos, the end result was fantastic! After painting the post looks like it was never damaged. My only concern when I got started with the 8260 was the potential battery life. Well, this tool surprised me! My initial sanding took about 5 minutes. But sanding down the wood putty the next day took a lot longer! I worked on the posts for about 30 minutes being careful so I didn't over-sand anything. When I got finished I looked at the battery indicator lights (there are 3). All 3 indicator lights were still lit up indicating the tool was still almost fully charged. I checked the Dremel smart app and it showed that the tool still had an 81% charge. I was impressed! And the lack of a cord allowed me to have a lot of control which I needed for this project. I've owned Dremel rotary tools my entire adult life. I have found many uses for them. But even though they are useful the downside was dealing with the cord. For a lot of projects I needed to plug the rotary took into an extension cord in order to work on a project. And that was a pain. Not anymore! I'm now free to use the 8260 anywhere I want and I really like that ability! And now that I've fixed the post I am no longer mad at Duchess! Just kidding, of course. I love her dearly! Needless to say I recommend the Dremel 8260. It's an awesome addition to any toolbox!
Before buying my first rotary tool I used small angle grinders for cutting, grinding and even polishing. While you can literally do anything from grinding off old glue and grout when replacing cracked floor tile to cutting off ends of lag screws in 2x4s to be flushed with a surface angle grinder spins with constant speed, removes material quickly, creates a lot of dust and sparks (when cutting steel). It also very to use it in confined spaces. Rotary tool is essentially very small straight grinder. Corded tool that I have addresses many limitations of angle grinder, but I often find myslef fighting with its cord and don't get desired precision that this tool should offer. If I need to cut a lot I often do it in my garage where I only have 2 outlets far away from my makeshift bench, so extension cord is involved. This cordless tool is much more convenient to use and offers a lot more precision than my old corded one. I like that it has a standard chuck, so I can use my large collection of mandrels from older corded tool. It has quiet but very torquey brushless motor that doesn't bind when cutting plastics on low rpms. Tool case made from thick soft plastic and I feel it will hold up after several occasional drops on concrete garage floor. It's got bluetooth connectivity. Out of curiosity I installed Dremel app and easily connected it to my smartphone. App dashboard shows estimated work time till battery re-charge, temperature, load and speed setting in rpms. App has robust wizard that can find correct speed based on working material, disc and type of work. You can control speed from tool or app either going through wizzard and just manually setting rpm range. I think app is also capable of reporting faults and there's accessory guide, help/troubleshooting and support sections. Small 12V battery is also kind of smart it has additional data and temperature terminals to let charger or tool know what kind of current they should expect based on ambient environment and its health and age. Tool also includes a plastic box with 3 metal, 1 plastic large diameter cutting disks and mandrel with quick-mount adapter. It also includes well made soft case with a lot of extra space for additional mandrels, disks and other accessories.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This was sent to me to test and review. Here are my findings. This tool is well balanced and has more power than the corded one. It's a strong rotary. It comes with a very nice carrying case and you get quite a bit of accessories. It is also Bluetooth accessible. I have used it frequently on a trike I am building. I had to notch some 3/16th steel and it cut through with ease. There should be one in every toolbox. It does everything the corded one does without the cord getting in the way. Great tool!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Upon opening the box, I was pleasantly surprised to be greeted with what feels to be a fairly heavy duty canvas zippered and nicely embroidered carrying case for the 8260. By the weight of the box, I was expecting a hard plastic case. Inside the case, everything is packed away neatly and readily available to get to work. Included in the paperwork is a handy quick start guide if you're looking to not waste any time, but the full manual is included as well. Just like any other cordless tool I've owned, the 8260 should be charged fully before it's first use. Good news is, the approximate charge time is only 95 minutes! The battery itself is not bulky and is surprisingly small in the hand. I also never thought I'd ever need to connect my Dremel to my phone, but it's pretty handy to change speeds and monitor temps without getting up to manually do it, especially when using a flex shaft attachment. In hand, the 8260 is a little larger than I expected and can be a little cumbersome. However, It doesn't take away from the convenience of it being cordless. I won't be using it for detail wood carving work, but it will be quite handy for cutting, grinding, and sanding jobs. The battery seems to last as long as the manual states and I look forward to really putting it through more work to test longevity. I am able to use any Dremel attachments I already own. Operation is comfortable with little vibration and love the speed control. Overall, I think Dremel did a great job on this product it's a giant leap in the right direction!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It's been too cold to actually use the product. Warmer this week. I plan on cutting bamboo and etching for wind chimes. What I have noticed is the Vue is sleeker and lighter than my other cordless rotary tool. I like that you can charge without removing battery. That was difficult for me. I'm excited to see ease of use with a little more power.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Dremel 8260 is one of those tools I doubt will work for most jobs in my shop. I run the Dremel 4300 at least a couple of times a week and cordless tool promising a longer even comparable performance is laughable, until this little package came along and made me the joke. I used the 8260 to cut 5/8" all thread and went thru faster and quieter than the corded 4300. I used it to carve a spoon and it never bogged down, never gave me the "battery drag" I've come to expect from cordless carving tools and, because its lighter, more ergonomic, and doesn't have a cord let me carve longer with better control and precision. All this was still on the original charge so next I carved some terra cotta pots into luminaries, and still no recharge. That's an impressive amount of work for any tool and the 8260 was more than capable. Dremel, I stand corrected, the 8260 s everything you say it is!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Dremel 8260 is a very nice tool. But if it is your very first rotary tool then you will want to get a accessory kit, as it only comes with some cut-off wheels. It seems to have plenty of power. The most powerful and smart rotary tool that I have used. It is quieter then I thought it would be. It has a nice feel to it and the rubber grip is great. The variable speed works nice and smooth. The Bluetooth app connects easy and works good. I like that you can see the battery level and the temperature. It will set the speed depending on the material you are working with which is nice. The charger light is big and bright you can see from across the room. Takes about an hour and a half to charge.
I live in Brazil, I bought a Dremel 8260 online, but after a week, it stopped working, the red LED keeps flashing and it doesn't turn on, I would like to know how to solve the problem, since in Brazil there is still no 8260 model for sale . thanks
