i quilt and there are times these silicone thimbles protect your fingers when pressing small quarter inch seams open. Saw them being worn in a quilt tutorial.

Perfect for making bias tape and other things.
I first bought a set at a sewing machine store. Wal-Mart carried for a while, but then stopped. The associate said they weren't selling, so they were taken out. People just don't know how great they are. The word needs to get out! I've told some of my sewing friends about them, and they have ordered them, too.

The "non" Thimble
I ordered these thimbles to assist in a hand sewing project. I did not realize these thimbles were soft. When I press against the end of the needle to push it through the cloth the needle pierces the thimble and my finger. If you sew by pulling the thread these may work okay. They are similar to the items used to assist in counting money.
