It has padding in the front and then along the back. There's all these Velcro straps that you adjust. According to your needs for me. I was slumped over so my occupational therapist tightened the bottom ones and loosened the top, she said they would have to be tightened occasionally if I felt it had loosened probably. It was A good thing she had worked with these Before because it doesn't come with instructions and it took her a lot of work to undo the screws to get the old back off and over the the hand grips that had to be removed and then slide the new one on and screw Each side down. She knew how to adjust it accordingly for my back. It's helping me to sit up straight and hopefully, over time will correct my posture. Right away I noticed it's made my chair more comfortable- small price to pay ( out of pocket) for the benefits.

Game changer comfortably, cushioned, yet firm for supplementing wheelchair back (especially when wheelchair covering is nylon - a lighter weight, but over time becomes less rigid). Also appreciate this back cushion sits slightly higher then the average wheelchair back which also add comfort and support.

This cushion REPLACES the standard wheelchair back. Remove the canes/vertical posts, remove the original back & put this on. The Velcro straps are wide & you will need to pull strongly on them to adjust the tension. I found it easiest to start with the bottom strap & work up to the top. The back cushion part has a polyester fabric cover & is 1" thick, providing better support & cushioning than the original back. Great for someone with "back issues" and Walmart's price is the best anywhere.
