Droll Yankee has been making bird feeders since 1969, in the USA. Their builds are always durable; the only issue we've ever had is that the hail storm which destroyed our roof (quarter size and larger) also put a hole in the tray underneath one of the feeders- and I doubt there's a feeder in the world that would withstand that! This is an ingenious squirrel-free design (one of Droll Yankee's specialties) that doesn't require power. It's also a very versatile design- you can use different types of seed for different birds, depending on where you live.

It's the best squirrel-proof birdfeeder I've ever owned. It's sturdy, well-built , and easy to fill. It's fun watching squirrels try to figure out out!

This is my second feeder. This is the only bird feeder that is truly squirrel proof and I suggest to friends and family who want to feed the birds and not the squirrels and chipmunks. Birds larger than a a cardinal will tip the perch so blue jays can't eat from it easily. This is by far the BEST bird feeder out there and the price is better here than other online retailers.

These are absolutely the best squirrel proof feeders I have ever used. Finally, birds are getting the bird seed! Note: Plan on having a sturdy pole to hold this feeder. When full, it is heavy.

It is very nice looking, and holds a lot of seeds. The bad thing is, I have yet to see one bird eat out of it. I have two other Droll feeders and the birds are all over them.

Met expectations.

I recommend this product for entertainment, but it took only one day for squirrels to master eating from it. They climb down the long holder rod, sliver down the tube, grab the perches near the cylinder, let them collapse and hang upside down. Raising up to get food is no problem. Even if I could keep them off, if it was squirrel proof they would not be able to eat from it.

Strongly built . Came scratched up . Bird's perches are spring loaded , not what I wanted but images and ad made it appear as though it was like the yankee whipper that spins by electric motor . I returned and purchased the whipper instead . It too came scratched up so that must be their normal . Would not really recommend .

Immediately prior to putting up my new feeder, I had numerous varieties of birds visiting my hopper style feeder (using black oil sunflower seed) for a year. I wanted to make an attempt at getting rid of squirrels. The Droll Yankees Yankee Whipper claims to be squirrel proof. I put up the Droll Yankees Whipper, using the same seed, and almost all the birds left except for finches. Cardinals and dove showed up but only on the ground. Now I have a finch feeder! Seems nothing larger than finches wanted to eat from it. The squirrels figured out how to get seeds out of it within a few hours. Was entertaining to watch but disheartening as that was the reason I bought the new feeder! After a week I tired of seeing nothing but finches and squirrels on the feeder, and very few other ground feeders showed up, so I took it down and restored my old hopper feeder. Within 48 hours, more variety of birds began showing up, and after a week the usual assortment (at least for summer) began coming back. They are blue jays, cardinals, red-wing blackbird, towee, downy and red bellied woodpeckers, black capped chickadees, dove, tufted titmouse, wrens, white breasted nuthatches, mocking birds, and of course finches and squirrels! With the large variety of birds feeding from my old feeder, they dropped plenty of seed onto the ground and I had other birds finding those seeds off the ground such as brown thrashers, cardinals, dove, and finches. My personal opinion is that the space between the perches on the Droll Yankee feeder and the tube holding the seed is not quite large enough for bigger birds to sit comfortably while watching out for predators, so they stay away or just feed from the ground. The squirrels wrap their legs around the perches, collapsed or not, and feed a seed at a time, while with my old feeder they just sit on it in comfort and gorge themselves. A FEW POSITIVES ABOUT THE YANKEE DROLL FEEDER. IT IS WELL BUILT, HOLDS A GOOD AMOUNT OF SEED, AND AT LEAST REDUCES THE AMOUNT OF SEED THE SQUIRRELS CONSUME. IF YOU WANT TO PUT THE SQUIRRELS ON A DIET AND ONLY SMALL BIRDS TO SHOW UP, YOU MIGHT WANT TO BUY THIS FEEDER. I rather see more birds and just be content with feeding the squirrels and birds. I don't need a finch feeder. Will use it as a 2nd feeder as it is too roughed up from the squirrels to return. Note- Squirrels are smart and athletic. After watching several hours of Youtube videos of smart people trying to outwit the squirrels, I am convinced it is a losing battle. Just buy more seed to feed them too.
