This bird feeder is awesome!!! We are so tired of the squirrels eating our bird seed. This feeder is perfect. Doesn't hurt the squirrel but doesn't enable it to steal the food either. It is an awesome design! The bottom rung totally swings around in a circle making the squirrel fall off. See pic to see how big it is...don't have to worry about filling it up because the squirrels won't get the seed!!
Truly love this product, it holds 5 pounds of seed which means you don't have to fill so often, more time to enjoy the birds, it also offers entertainment watching the squirrels try to get to the seed, instead they fly around like a whirly jig. Can be quite disoriented when landing. This is a wonderful product, great quality.
The Yankee Flipper Squirrel Proof feeder does work at keeping the squirrels off. My biggest problem at first was finding a hook that is far enough away from the pole. It is suggested that the feeder be 16" from pole so it can spin properly. I use a modified shephard's hook and it seems to be working. I take the battery out when there is going to be a rain storm. I have not gone through a winter yet, but will probably remove this feeder in the winter and keep my other Droll Yankee feeder out then. It is entertaining watching the squirrels try to get the feed. They just end up hanging around on the ground below the feeder for any dropped seeds.
This feeder is a must have for anyone who enjoys watching birds visit their yard, and doesn't want squirrels to steal the meal! It holds A LOT of bird seed, 5 lbs, so more enjoyability and less refills. It also has four feeding ports around the feeder so multiple birds can dine. It is heavy if you fill it up so be sure to pick a sturdy place to hang it. I take ours inside if heavy wind or rain are in the weather forecast just in case. The feeding perch rotates when a considerable amount of (squirrel equivalent) weight is sensed on it. I tested it with my hand and it does seem like it is not very sensitive to light weight, so a bird landing on the perch should not set it off. So far, I have seen many birds enjoying it and squirrels have left it alone. The bird feeder's base and cap are made of heavy duty metal and the seed compartment is “UV-stabilized polycarbonate” that the company claims won't fade. Overall, it feels very durable and very good quality. It is also manufactured in the United States, so this is a great way to support a more local business!
...and squirrel-proof - and those features just barely scratch the surface. The feeder, empty of its charger and birdseed, tips the scales at just over 4 pounds. It's also advertised to hold 5 lbs. of seed. the looped stainless steel wire is designed to minimize motion, and will never rust. The metal, powder-coated die cast cap is designed for long wear. The UV-stabilized polycarbonate tube will not yellow with age. 21" long tube is too long for a squirrel to reach from top to bottom. Perch ring fling will not easily activate under the weight of a bird, but results in a quick trip for grey squirrels. There are four feeding ports and the unit has an off/on switch. I noted that the unit is warranted against squirrel damage, and grey squirrels seem to be singled out. If you're having issues with opossum, raccoon, bear, etc. you'll need to solve those independently of the feeder. Placement would seem to be key. Too close to a tree trunk, branch, fence-post or other item upon which a squirrel could brace itself would make it relatively simple for a squirrel to defeat the "Ring of Fling". I recommend plenty of clearance. I'll be watching all winter long to see if each 5-lb fill feeds more birds or more [grey?] squirrels.
This is such great entertainment to watch!!! My cats even enjoy the show! I haven't had it long enough to know how long the batteries last, but it's well worth the price of batteries if they don't last a long time. This is also VERY well made with heavy duty materials, and will last for years I'm sure. Another feature that I love is it's size. It holds a LOT of seed, so you don't have to refill it every day or sooner like you would with the 'normal' sized bird feeders. I love it!
I recently received this Droll Yankees Flipper Squirrel-Proof Bird Feeder. It's a lot bigger than I thought it would be! It's a really nice feeder. It has a rechargeable motor that makes it spin whenever a squirrel gets on it. It's very easy to take apart to fill as well as charge the motor. I had gotten a shepherd's hook to hang this on but I can also put it on my neighbor's tree that hangs on my side of my patio but it's so big that it requires a LARGE branch! It holds plenty of birdseed with a 5lb capacity. So, you won't need to fill this one very often, unless you're getting a lot of birds daily. It can hold many different varieties of food. I'm nervous about putting it too close to my house on the tree so if a squirrel gets thrown, they don't get hurt by hitting my house of windows! That's why I prefer hanging it on the hook. It's a very lightweight feeder considering it has a motor in it. Overall, I'm very happy with it.
This Droll Yankee Squirel Proof Bird Feeder is the best on the market. It has a solid base that has to be recharged from time to time. It seems very sturdy and that squirels can't seem to chew the hard plastic seed container. And it holds quite a bit of bird seed so you definitely need a strong hook or place to hang it from. I have watched videos of squirels trying to get the bird feed and it is quite comical. I know we will eventuallysee one attempt to use it. So far the birds have been enjoying it.
this droll yankees yankee flipper squirrel-proof tube bird feeder, green is the worlds best feeders since 1969, and is the most entertaining squirrell-proff feeder on the market. when the squirrells weight is on the perch ring it spins so the squirrells can not hold on to get to the seed. the motor driven battery powered weight sensitive perch, calibrated to allows birds to eat, but flips the squirrells off. some of the features of this droll yankees yankee flipper squirrell-proof tube bird feeder(green) are: it has a sturdy stainless steel wire which will not rust - the metal die castings insure dependable wear- the large tube holds 5lb of seeds(sunflower-saffloweand high quality mixed seeds. i will recommend this droll yankee squirrell proof feeder to all my family and friends that like to bird watch. i will give this droll yankee squirrell proof yankee flipper bird feeder a five star rating.
The first thing I noticed about this feeder is that it is massive! The picture does not do it justice, this is one of the biggest feeders I have ever seen! The idea of the spinning perch is a really good one, but it has its downsides: You have to charge it before you can use it, and have to do the same thing in between. When something heavy like a squirrel sits on it, it will spin around throwing the squirrel off, but also scattering and wasting a lot of seeds. The spilling of the food also happens when a little bit heavier bird sits on the perch; it doesn't throw him off like it would a squirrel but it spins enough to waste bird seed. I like the fact that the feeder is large and can hold a lot of food. It also seems very well-made; therefore I am giving it 4 stars. I have not yet seen a squirrel in action on the feeder, apparently it happens at night; But obviously one has been there because of - as I mentioned - all the scattered seeds. I am not sure I would recommend this to a friend. If they are simply looking for the largest feeder available, then yes; but if they want to buy it because of the spinning perch I would probably advise them not to.
