This Earthway spreader is a great buy. It comes fully assembled with the only requirement to get this fully operational is lift the handle in the upright position and hand tighten the wing nuts. If you are torn between this Earthway and Scott's Professional, this wins hands down...no contest. The gears are solid and the edge guard is better as it controls the amount of product going through the spreader rather than have all the product hit a guard and go straight down into your lawn thus over saturatin your edges. The wheels are professional grade and rugged and they come prefilled to the right psi. The 80 lb bucket is tough poly and generous; however, be careful on how much you put into the bucket. I filled thus up with 60 lbs of fertilizer and it was tough to push until it got around the 30-40 lb mark. The even spray pattern is awesome. You can see how evenly it displaces the products onto your lawn with the ability to control how far you throw out by the pace of your walk. The last feature that makes this the clear cut choice over Scott's or any other manufacturer is the 5 year warranty, which is the leader in this class. This spreader will give you professional results and make you the envy of your neighborhood.
Great spreader, easy to use and blow the socks off of scotts and others. I am certain it will last for years to come. The most frustrating thing is figuring out settings as there is no "cross reference" listed anywhere and you have to follow a 3 step matrix based on product properties. In the end I learned that a rule of thumb is to add 10 or 11 to the scotts broadcast setting and you are about spot on. Having a positive stop on the setting is also nice, no bumping it inadvertently like on other brands. Shipping was crazy fast from Illinois.
Does what it should do at a good price.
Works great but the handle is cheap. Needs a t handle. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
This spreader lived up to it's claims. I use it to spread salt on the sidewalks at my business and it does a great job. It holds 50lbs. easily and rolls smoothly with its pneumatic wheels. The spec. sheet says it doesn't recommend using it for salt and then one line down it says to remove agitator pin before using with salt. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
After fighting with my Scotts spreader for YEARS, I was very happy to find a spreader that works easily and distributes product well. This was a very good surprise at how well this Earthway Spreader worked.
I've only used it once but my initial thoughts are it works well. Difficult to know where to set the drop volume. They need to include a better chart for the settings. The only problem I experienced is you really need to lock down the thumb screw that holds the drop setting. I looked down and noticed it had moved forward from 12 to 20 after I had shut it off several times while turning at the end off runs. Very light and rolls well on pneumatic tires.
This spreader is junk. I started with the Scott's spreader and it was junk and left lines. I decided to spend the $200 for this spreader hoping it would be better. It is better but not much. The indicator constantly moved no matter how much I tightened it. The propeller started making a rattling noise right after the first use. It's very hard to push because the kick stand drags the grass. Everything is plastic. So disappointed!
Edge guard doesn't stay shut, assembly loosens after tightening and hits the broadcast wheel.
Looking for a good spreader. Ordered this after reading reviews. The set up was a bit problematic the set screws not tightening - when in use handle keeps moving. Since this brand is not on bags, liked how they gave you settings. Set for 3 if bag states y 15K sf per bag. HOWEVER, product would not / could not move and application was iffy; had to set for 5. Toward end of fill in hopper device became unwieldy and dumped handfuls of product on lawn (happened twice) killing grass. Ended up using an old Scotts. I now have a good looking paper weight in the garage.
