Used my cabinet for the first time a few days ago. Mine had a small media leak at one of the weld seams in the hopper but I caulked the seam and no problem there. Works great and is the perfect tool for powder coat prep. I'm using glass bead right now but I need to get some aliuminum oxide as well for more aggressive stripping
This is my first blast cabinet. I've been using a pressurized "pot" from TSC that works well outside, but I'm tired of losing media and being out in the weather. After looking at small cabinets at TSC and Harbor Freight, I decided to spend twice the money for a slightly larger unit from Eastwood. I don't live close to one of their stores, so I had to trust the photos, descriptions, and reviews here. The Modular Cabinet was on sale/reduced price(?) and they were offering free shipping for Independence Day, so I took a chance... FedEx delivered it today, so the shipping was quick, even with the Holiday! The cardboard box had a few dents on it, but the cabinet only had one slight "ding" on the bottom flange. It was mostly assembled, so my wife and I finished the job in about thirty minutes. I filled it with 60-30/60 Black Beauty grit that I had on hand and tried it out. Worked pretty good for the price! The light isn't bad, but it could be brighter. I'll probably add another one myself. The caulking inside IS pretty poor, as another reviewer already stated. I removed the intake filter, slid the foam pre-filter on it, then re-installed the filter so the flat ring is holding the foam pre-filter in place. I hooked up a small ShopVac to the exhaust port, and everything stayed where it should. To install the elbow for the vacuum, I took off the deflector on the inside, sprayed the elbow with Windex, and slid it through the grommet from the inside. Then I replaced the deflector. I don't really know what the instructions say, since I didn't do more than glance at them. I read enough reviews and watched too many You Tube videos that said they suck, and they do! Anyway, I'm happy with my purchase so far. My wife even asked if she can use it!!! I'm happy with my first purchase from Eastwood, and will probably buy from them again. Thank you...
I have been using this blaster non stop for a month, and couldn't be happier. I have the unit connected to a 33 Gal compressor, and have only stopped a few times to let it get back to pressure. Unit is well built, came with seams already sealed with caulk, and the gloves are very heavy duty. When it first arrived the short, included legs did not match the pre drilled holes, a manufacturing defect and not Eastwood's fault. They opened up a few and and realized they problem, sent me a pair of the taller legs for my troubles.
I recently bought this blast cabinet and it was delivered very quickly. I was impressed with how complete its assembly was. I put the legs and fittings on and it was ready to go. I am restoring an old truck and it has come in handy for brackets and parts that I want to refinish. I would recommend highly
Good bead blaster use for small alum parts only.Taped seams with sealing tape to prevent leaking glass beads.Only issue was gloves were installed in blaster had hole in cuff taped up.Would give 5stars if glove holes were bigger for more arm movement.
Awesome cabinet and took very little time to put together but some of the details took a little bit longer to iron out. The seams appeared to have been sealed, or attempted to be sealed, with something resembling hot glue that got close to the seam but not on them and did not adhere well at all. I did pull it all out and went ahead and used some left over blue engine sealer that looked right at home with the blue cabinet. One of the cabinet opening flanges was bent down, I assume during welding, and before powdercoating, and would not seal when the door was closed... that was an easy tweak. Use a high quality thread sealer for the bulkhead air connector. It took a couple of attempts to stop an air leak at this location. I just purchase my glass media today and used my blast cabinet for the first time and within an hour the power supply for the fluorescent light died :( Checked the voltage of the plug in transformer and it was zero... the case was pretty warm. Will be working with Customer Service on this and don't expect any issues. I put a regulator on the outside of the cabinet (bolted to the tall legs) with a water separator but will be adding a dessicant filter as the inline separator was just not enough. Love the cabinet and the function, even with the minor issues, but it does slow things down with no interior light. I have connected my cabinet to the Eastwood Dust Collector and that is a perfect combination.
Overall construction quality ok, but several significant flaws. Lighting completely inadequate. Lacks room for proper angles on media return to the pickup tube (almost unusable). No provision to quickly remove used media. I solved these, but would have bought Harbor Freight and saved $$ if I had known that a complete redesign was going to be needed.
I purchased the B40 to do small parts on my boat. When it works, it works good. The problem is the blasting material gets caught on the sides and does not flow back down to the center where the pickup tube is. It seems like every few minutes I have to stop and knock the blasting material back to the center. Other than that, I'm pleased with how it works.
The shipping carrier was hard on the box, had 1small dent on the back panel. It was easy to assemble. I like the top mounted door, the inside is big enough to put a 30” part in it. I bought this unit because of the space inside an ease of use. I looked for 6 months for a blast cabinet to fit my needs.
After 2 weeks use the cabinets Dual gas piston system failed to work. This would not have been a big problem if Eastwood would have helped get replacement parts to me but after contacting customer service 3 times they have not responded. If you are hoping for Eastwood to stand behind their products I would move on to a more reputable company.
