This is our first smart thermostat and we are enjoying it a lot, so far. This replaced the thermostat that has been in the house, since the 90s. Installation instructions were pretty straightforward. One thing that I was not expecting to be an issue is our whole house humidifier. The installation of that tied into our furnace really made the wiring different. Luckily, after following the wires around, I found that our “G” wire was capped at the humidifier and wasn't being used. So I untwisted it from the furnace side and plugged it in. Viola! Works perfectly. My wife got the thermostat for free from her work's health benefits plan, so it was a no brainer to upgrade to this. I will say though, after some more time playing with this and seeing how well it's going to work for us, we'll probably upgrade to the premium one. There is a lot more that I'd like to do with it. Can't argue with free though.
I've have this product for a week now and it has been so convenient, reliable, exceptional! Our son does HVAC and he gave it to us as a gift what a wonderful gift. He did the installation as well. He highly recommends it
On my first purchase, I got the Ecobee 3 lite. About two weeks later I purchased a Pair of Sensors after seeing that it had the software so that I could still add them. Ecobee 3 is an amazing Thermostat. I previously owned a WiFi Honeywell Thermostat that worked well but it kept on losing connectivity with the Internet. I also had a problem in that I couldn’t change the settings in the thermostat while in the Vacation mode. I don’t have those problems with Ecobee 3 and it also has so many more $$ saving features on it. It’s also more intuitive and easier to use. Scheduling my daily Comfort Settings was a little bit of a chalange in the fact that it only had Home, Away & Sleep as times for it to change. I was use to 4 different time periods with the Honeywell. But with the feature of temporarily changing the temperature by 2 hours, 4 hours, “till I change it” or “until next scheduled time” it was easier to modify the way I scheduled my Comfort settings. It’s the best Thermostat on the market. I didn’t get the Ecobee 4 because I have Alexa Echo Plus, Echo & Dots all over my house & didn’t need it on my Thermostat.
I got a refurbished version to save on money and plastic waste. I've had it for little less than a month and it's been working fantastic. Installation was easy, I love the design and the materials used. Looks very sleek and modern. The app functions well too and I even get to command it through the Amazon Alexa-s in the house. I think it was one of my best home improvement purchases this year.
I really have enjoyed this thermostat. I can program it and forget it. Many extra controls, like humidity control. I'm not much on using Alexa or Google to control the thermostat, so why pay for something you don't need. I purchased 2 additional remote sensors for better temp control in the master bedroom and bath. I can also control the thermostat while away from home. And this was very easy to install.
The ecobee app along with the ecobee thermostats in our house is a great lifesaver for the hot days when we go out for a while. When leaving the house we simply say to Alexa - trigger going out and Alexa along with the IFTTT does the rest of activating the ecobee away mode. On our way back we open the ecobee app, and cancel the hold with one tap, and our house is nice and cool by the time we get back. I wish the app had some widgets that can report the temperatures on the homepage and have a one-click cancel option. The app on the phone also does not let you view the stats. For that you have to use the tablet version, or use the website. The app essentially mimics the screen of the ecobee and I would have to say for the phone purposes it works pretty well. Although I have a phablet and I wish I could turn it to landscape mode and see the tablet screen.
I found this product from the website and also inquired from Ecobee support team on installation with existing wiring. They were very helpful. The DIY instructions on the manual are easy to follow. Successfully installed on time! The old Ecobee SmartStat has already retired.
Easy set up once we figured out we needed to hire furnace person to switch out our older 1950's two wire electric cord for new updated three wire one. We only have a heating system. So far it works perfect for our needs. As you can see below it fit over old mercy round thermostat area. No repair needed to the space where old one was.
I have had the Ecobee 3 Lite Smart Thermostat for about 2 months now. I am using it with a 2 stage gas furnace and 1 stage air conditioner. In general it is a good thermostat that works well but is surprisingly lacking the ability to fine tune your set times to the exact times you want them. My dumb programmable thermostat offered me more options for inputting the time I wanted events to happen Pros: 1) Looks nice and is easy to use 2) Easy to install 3) Works with 3rd party apps such as Beestat and My Ecobee 4) Customer support was quick to try and help me with an issue I had. Cons: 1) When setting times for events to occur you only have the option to setting it to the 30 minute mark, with a smart thermostat you should be able to set it right to the minute. 2) The display only displays the temperature in 0.5 C increments. A smart thermostat should have the option for 0.1 C increments. The 3rd party apps will show you the temperature in 0.1 C increments. 3) In 2 months there must have been a minimum of 5 network outages where the Ecobee infrastructure goes down and you can't access your thermostat online. 4) When using Smart recovery in heat mode the thermostat comes on with stage 1 heat instead of stage 2 heat which will heat your home slower. It should start off with stage 2 then when close to the desired temperature cycle down to stage 1.
The Lite unit is very poorly made, with cheap components and manufacturing. The pins immediately disconnected from the unit (shown in picture), and Ecobee did not provide sufficient customer support or remediation. They instead asked the customer to attempt to return through the store, rather than directly handle on their own.
