Best value overall, echo doesn't disappoint. I'm more of a diy person, I prefer to buy quality tools vs constantly replacing cheaper tools. Since I won't be using my chainsaw daily I purchased this CS-501P with 20" chain because I wanted something that will start every time regardless of use and echo is it for me. Echo makes quality equipment, I've never had issues. Can't go wrong with echo and you can't beat this cs501p. Extremely satisfied with my purchase.
I have owned the chainsaw for a couple of weeks, so I can't comment on the long term reliability or performance of the saw. But, it has performed very well in the short amount of time that the saw has been used. It is much easier to start than my other chainsaw and performs just as well.
Great saw, we use it commercially and love it. Lightweight but still strong enough to run a 20" bar, works great on the ground and as a medium sized climbing saw.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] New saw has about 3 hours on and runs like a champ. Inital startup was choke on, 3 cranks, cut choke off started on the fourth pull. Cold start now choke on, 3 cranks starts, warm start no choke first crank! The saw seems to have plenty of power for my use, I was cutting 12 to 16" oak without issue, it is light weight and easy to handle! Love it.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've only had my saw a short time but so far I am very happy with it! Great power to weight ratio! I have many Echo products weedeater, blower, stick edger I believe the cost and dependability cannot be beat!
I bought this saw a couple weeks ago and have been using it to cut up some huge dead standing oak trees and a very large maple tree. It has great power for such a light saw. And tough too due to my overlooking the situation a 12 foot section of oak about 14 inches across rolled down off of the top of the tree help about 4 feet knocked the saw out of my handed and knocked me a few feet away. The saw didn't even have a scratch on it. It runs flawlessly it's easy to start and I'm sure it will be around a while like my other Echo equipment. They are just great machines to work with. I wouldn't trade for any other brand.
Bought this as an upgrade for another orange-colored saw I have that had become a nightmare to start and keep running. I had researched the Echo line and liked what I saw for features and positive reviews from owners. I don't use a chainsaw for a living, but have a fair amount of property and woods and wanted something in the 50cc class that was reliable. Decided to give the 501P a try. Only have about 8 hours of cutting on it at this point, but so far I'm very happy with it. Mine has the 18" bar and so far I have bucked some oak limbs that were just shy of 18" in diameter and it did beautifully. Excellent throttle response and power, and very well balanced with the 18" bar. Initially, I had a little trouble getting it started, but I think it was a combination of being brand new and me getting to know the start sequence and how much choke the saw preferred. Have had no trouble since. Has a little more vibration through the handle than my old saw, but only at idle - don't notice it at all when you are cutting - and it cuts like a dream. Have limited experience with it so far, but in terms of design improvements I would recommend for the future, I have one. The choke control "rod" from the button to the carburetor linkage is made of plastic and it is hard to tell if you have the choke control all the way out when you pull on it - I had to remove the air filter to see if the choke was fully closing. Since this is a part that gets a lot of use, and the "feel" is not good, I would recommend the use of steel linkage all the way to the carb. But this is a minor nit - based on my experience so far, I highly recommend this Echo model. Thanks.
I have a cs-400 and love it. But, when working in big timber needed more power. I have ran about 6 gas tanks so far and appreciate the faster cutting. I am rating this saw excellent a little early in part because Echo saws are simply awesome for the money. I buy the tune-up kits and keep all 5 of my Echo saws maintained. This 501P weighs about the same as the cs-400 but has 10 more cc's, plus it comes with a more aggressive chain. It did flood on me once at initial starting but had bounced in a pickup for 5 hours. Leaks a little chain oil while sitting but sometimes that fades away. For my needs this 501P is doing great so far.
I wanted to purchase this stuff about 6 months before I actually did. I finally tracked her down at an Echo dealer in Topeka Kansas. The size and credible an 18 inch bar so lightweight with so much power always looking for something cut up. About 8 tanks of gas through it now so I was going to start to get on it a little bit I've been letting it break in
I bought this saw for cutting firewood( oak ,hard maple, ironwood) After 30+yrs of using 70cc chainsaws I just got to old, for handling 20lb saws. (Husqvarna 575xp, Partner 7000plus) I have a Echo 4000 that I used for limbing it was light weight but not very powerful. The 501p screams through the wood with high rpm and is even lighter than the 4000. Starts easy, low vibration and is nice and light. Perfect saw if you like your back.
