I wanted an edger but not one of the big ones that take up a lot of space in my shop. Shop space is valuable to me. I already own a Echo string trimmer and it is a wonderful product as well, so I knew which brand I wanted. This edger does a great job of edging, it's starts easy, has plenty of power and I noticed that the blade doesn't start turning until the engine is entering the power band in rpm, almost like a stall converter, very nice feature. Oh yeah, I'm retired now, but I've been an equipment mechanic all of my life and I know quality when I see it. I said shop space is important, so i've included a picture of my latest project, my bird house.
The performance is very good for the price. Great for residential use. Easily edge a patio that hadn't been edged in two years. Had to go over it twice but it was minimal effort considering the overgrowth. Love it plus the 5-year warranty makes it awesome!!
Just purchased about a month ago and I have to tell you this edger saves me so much time doing my lawn. No more struggles. I have the sharpest lawn in the neighborhood
While some can edge well with their string trimmers, I am not one of those people. My ECHO SRM-225 is a great trimmer, but my PE-225 Edger helps me leave a nice, manicured edge around my sidewalk and driveway.
I've only had the PE-225 for a month thus far I am loving this edger! Gets the job done clean and thoroughly.
Just like my other Echo products, this edger starts every time and cuts a nice straight edge. My relatives have even commented. I have been using my weed eater for edging for 33 years.
Great edger. We've used several because they last!
I purchased this stick edger to replace a 3 wheel edger that I had for 11 years. The first thing I noticed was the visible quality, how easy the engine started and the ergonomic feel of the handle and throttle. A few adjustments and the handle aligned with my wrist nicely. The replacement blades are inexpensive compared to other edger's. This unit is one piece and doesn't support multi tool use, but it's very ridged and has a nice solid feel. The main reason I give this only a 4 star is that the engine must be revved to a high level for the edger to work best and it's noisy at high rpm's. There is a certain skill level required to use this compared to my old 3 wheel edger. A conscious effort is required to keep the edger perpendicular to the ground and the height you have the engine at controls the cut depth in addition to the adjustment on the wheel. A few times using and these become attributes, not issues.
While I was at the Home Depot I decided to replace my old combo hedger/trimmer that refused to start with the Echo. I also purchased some canned fuel instead of ethanol hi-test that I had been using for the old trimmer. The Echo starts like a dream and I think I may try mixing hi-test when I run out of the pre-mixed canned fuel. Over all it's strong much more powerful than any electric and runs great. I'm 5'8 and I think the length could be a little shorter but other than that it's great.
Been running the PE225 for 3 years and overall I'm not impressed with the build quality. The support and control handles constantly loosen and rotate - seems like I spend more time fixing and tightening the handles then I do running the equipment. Also, this is built with planned obsolescence as there is no grease port to properly grease the head. The trigger feels cheaply made and the unit will barely stand upright on the ground without tipping over. I have an SRM-225 trimmer that is a few years older, and the build quality is far superior. Echo really cheaper out on this one! At least it runs well…for now
