I have been buying this ham exclusively for at least a couple of years, It is very tasty and surprisingly economical. I don't think I have ever been disappointed with this Eckrich deli ham until this last purchase because it was sliced soooo thick. I should state that almost all my purchases are on line and now inhome delivery. WM needs to find a way to give the purchaser some simple options when placing an order,
This deli ham surprised me in a good way. The slices are fresh, not overly salty, and have a nice natural flavor that actually tastes like real ham instead of something overly processed. It works great for sandwiches, especially with cheese and toasted bread. The texture is soft but not slimy, and it holds up well without falling apart. I've used it for quick lunches and even added it to eggs, and it still tastes great. Overall, it's a solid choice if you want something convenient but still good quality. I'd definitely buy it again.
This is the best ham from the deli dept. It has the off the bone taste and texture of home baked ham and is marbled with a little fat. Good ham flavor and slices are not flimsy like some sliced meats from the deli. I have tried the other brands from the deli and they taste like highly processed lunch meat, far from the quality of thiis Eckrich brand. Great for sandwiches or with eggs for breakfast. The only con is that the Deli could be better at placing the label where it does NOT interfere with opening the bag. I have to peel off the label as soon as I get this home and place it on the center of the plastic bag. It also has very tiny printing of the date and other info that is microscopic.
I switched from Prima Della to Eckrich off the bone deli ham because it was cheaper and wanted to see if taste and quality was similar. The first two times I bought Eckrich, the taste and quality was not that different from Prima Della. I ordered Eckrich two more times and the quality was less than before. It had a lot of fat throughout the ham slice. So, I may have to switch back. If you have problems with fat in your ham, like me, this may not be the product for you. It's hit or miss with this brand. Prima Della was more consistent and was of great quality. Eckrich has a great taste without all the fat, though.
I like the ham, my only complaint is that I can't get it cut to the thickness I like. when from Walmart they asks how much weight you want but they dont ask how thick would you like that cut". I like my ham cut thicker. It's a walmart order problem for me. A slmple fix, but they can't see it. Fix the order page!
Last couple of time I purchased this ham it was so fatty. Big rim of fat around the edge and wide fat bands running through the ham. I wasn't very happy with these last 2 purchases and I don't like that they sent me small end pieces . I have no way of knowing what I get until it's delivered to my home. Other times I received some nice center cuts . I would have gladly have this product more stars otherwise.
The meat itself is fine. I don't understand why I can't get slices of lunch meat. It is a bunch of shavings stuffed into a bag…which is NOT how sliced lunch meat is supposed to be! Just once I would love to get actual slices so I could pull out a slice or two and make a sandwich instead of bits and pieces picked out and piled up. It would actually be EASIER for the deli staff! Less work, repetitive motion and discomfort.
The people who cut this were very nice. I cut my finger on the display case and it was bleeding all over the place. The girl in the deli who saw it gave me TWO bandaids FOR FREE! She was nice, but there was fat in that ham!! The part that wasn't fat was good!
Although the ham has a good taste it was full of fat and grizzle. There was at least .25 lbs not useable because half of each piece was nothing but fat. These pieces should have not been sold. It's a shame when you are taken advantage of because you use Walmart home delivery, which I pay for.. If I was in the store and saw that I would not have purchased it.
Hard to review an item that the delivery people won't pick up for some reason. Walmart shows it in stock, but for some reason the delivery drivers always say it's unavailable with no substitute. If I had to guess, it's because they don't want to wait at the deli counter for it to be cut.
