Easy to use, and install

Randi43 April 18, 2026

I have had the thermostat for years, I just added the door mount and love them. One door was a breeze, the other a little bit more challenging because of the distance. But the system is wonderful

Good and sensitive

linnie_Toronto December 6, 2021

[Employee of walmartcanada] Easy set up. You can try the most sensitive distance ( maybe two parts are not too closed), then it is more helpful if the door is at ajar position then you can know the door isn't closed well.

Tells me when my door is open

AndrewMo October 8, 2020

From most of the feedback I think what we all got this for isn't yet a function. Ecobee is known for dominating the HVAC space so when a product like this comes out, one would figure this would control your HVAC for energy savings. i.e. the door is open the AC turns off, I mean we all got yelled at as kids right?? SHUT THE DOOR THE HEAT IS ON! or NO NEED TO COOL THE WHOLE NEIGHBORHOOD!! This should help with that through automation. I am told it is on the way, hopeful it is, maybe the tech has not caught up to the demand. The good news is it is all software base, so an API to IFFT or Smartthings will do just that.

T-Stat is good and works fine, door sensors ($$$$)

MrNok July 22, 2025

I've been an Ecobee user since before 2019. I didn't get to join the pilot program for the Switch+, but I bought one as soon as it was released. Unfortunately, a lightning strike took it out. I replaced it with another one, and once again, after a small lightning spark, it went haywire. I had to remove it from the wall and reinstall it (which the average user probably shouldn't be doing — YouTube helped, and yes, I turned the breaker off). It powered back up and worked for a while... until now. It no longer connects to the thermostat. The motion sensor on it still works, which is nice, but everything else has failed. I won't be buying another Switch+ — next time, I'll just use a motion detector and another smart switch. I also bought a combo pack of motion and door sensors, thinking I could use them with Apple Home Automations — for example, when a door opens, the light turns on. But they're too slow to respond for that to work well. I also assumed the door sensors had temperature and motion detection — turns out, not without a subscription? That's disappointing. You can use the 2 individual occupancy sensors but now I have 2 devices for one purpose. The door sensors are a waste. From here on out, I'll be switching to Eve devices — motion sensors and door/window sensors that work with HomeKit without needing a subscription. I can still trigger the Ecobee thermostat through Apple Shortcuts if needed, like turning off the AC when a door opens. But Ecobee requiring a subscription just to get basic motion functionality from a sensor is a bad move. If the motion on the door sensors worked out of the box, I wouldn't be this frustrated. 120 degree of motion detection, False! never had any motion from my door sensors. Sorry Ecobee, but you're losing a loyal customer with this approach. Don't bother reaching out - just improve your approach, I'm already switching.

Security features do not work without Internet

Keith B November 30, 2025

Easy setup, major flaw: This 'security' system is useless without internet. If your connection drops (e.g., cut cable, router failure), all features, including the thermostat alarm, fail. Our house was unsecured for 48 hours over Thanksgiving when our internet went down. This critical vulnerability is not disclosed in the product information.

Door sensors

Ca3d January 23, 2026

Very easy to setup and notification work well. I have been using on garage door as it seems it magically opens and 8 need to know if it is open or closed. I had to design and 3d print brackets as the rails and door are not flat.

Good product, but

Fifito July 18, 2025

The idea of having the having Ac hold if doors are open is great and unique and you could get more customers if you're taking off the subscription fees and you would still make good profit since your sensors are expensive compare to the other brands

Useless

DBT28 February 17, 2021

Come on ecobee!! It is 2021.What good it is,if it does not integrate with smartthings,Google Home? It is useless without subscription. I am/was happy with thermostat but door sensor disappointed me. Maybe I will not trust future ecobee products. I hope they will integrate it with smartthings/google home API after reading so many negative reviews.

good idea that's locked behind greedy paywall

av8or October 12, 2021

the sensors work well, and the ecobee sees and reports their function just fine, but to be able to put it in standby when they're open more than a few minutes you have to shell out 6 bucks a month for the 'haven' subscription, for a function that could clearly work without it. have absolutely no need at all for the rest of the haven subscription "features" and will cancel before end of free trial and just eat the cost of the sensors, and never buy or recommend another ecobee product to anyone if this is their new way of doing business.
