My 9 year old Nest started to flake out saying it was a battery issue. I decided to upgrade to the ecobee Premium and couldn't be happier. I'm able to control staging for my 2-stage furnace better than the Nest which left it up to the furnace to do that without the ability to adjust for temp differentials or stage 1 runtimes. it gives you tools to monitor and adjust for economy. Eco could be a way to save money and energy but I'm currently not using that feature. All in all, I like this thermostat.
Nice smart thermostat with a nicely designed display. Prospective buyers, however, should be aware that, if your setup doesn't have a “C wire” (this wire supplies power to the thermostat), you'll need to purchase at least the Enhanced or Premium version. These versions include a small power adapter that has to be installed at the control panel of the furnace. The basic version does not include this adapter, and has to be purchased separately. I think it's around 30 bucks. Instructions for installation of this adapter are included, and they are clear and easy to understand. If your system has the C wire, then installation of the Ecobee is much simpler. If your system does not have the C wire, I would strongly suggest looking at the Ecobee website's info on the power adapter installation before purchasing.
once you figure out how to use it it's not so hard. but there was a learning curve. I end up having to have it professionally installed as the wires in my wall were too short to add this to this particular thermostat. we had to have a whole new wire set up and installed. however this was my second thermostat I installed at this particular home, and the wires in the wall were fine. be sure you have some extra wire hanging out of the wall before considering purchase otherwise you're going to need a professional installer to add another wiring line. since then I really like it and I can control it from my cell phone. but I do like it's the fact that my guest rental people cannot change the temperature above and below where I set it
The installation guide in the app was very detailed making the the installation very easy. Super easy to change your thermostat settings right from your phone.
I like the appearance of the thermostat and the fact you can get guidance on installation. It is a bit of a trick getting it to a narrow cooling range but keep tweaking.
One of the two devices was defective and had to be replaced, but the others that I ordered worked perfectly. Not a Walmart issue, but obviously a random manufacturer defect.
The unit seemed nice but was not easily installed. Never actaully got it up and running. Called support and they deduced it was a faulty unit. Got a second one and still couldn't get it installed correctly; same thing happened. Went through all of the prompts to ensure it was capatible but...
This newer model offers a better UI experience with easy to learn controls, settings, and features. I admit I prefer the Google dial to move quickly through menus but the touchscreen on this model more than makes up for it. If you pair it with smart doorbell, it provides a preview screen on the thermostat screen of your doorbell camera and can use the microphone to talk to whoever is at your front door. A nice little feature. I replaced my nest 3rd generation one as it kept going into the W5 error and lack of power.
Walmart sent me an ecobee that they had originally sold 11 months ago. I only discovered that when I talked to ecobee today because they could see it in their system. I ordered a the unit online and tried to install it yesterday. When I installed it, it didn't work and my husband and I worked for five hours trying to troubleshoot what was wrong with it. After that, we reinstalled the original thermostat and it worked just fine. I called ecobee customer service today and was told that Walmart sold this unit 11 months ago and it was returned. Clearly it doesn't work and Walmart re-sold it. I highly recommend you don't buy these things from Walmart because you can't trust that they're new . Ecobee is sending me a coupon for my troubles. Which is a whole lot more than I could ever expect from Walmart! Don't buy this from Walmart.
my ecobee was Used and defective. literally registered to someone else and doesn't work. listed as NEW, This is fraud . won't provide a new unit at the same sale price. buyer beware!!!! I thought I was purchasing from a Walmart store ... only to find out this store is actually micro trends .
