[Employee of walmartcanada] Working well. Only thing is: don't put it beside any hot heating duct outlet, if you did, the camera is so sensitive and "thinks" it is motion when outlet blows hot air, then it take pictures. So i only activate "person detection". Now, i purchase the monthly plan, still deactivate motion detection function. It records video when detects person motion.
Through Apple HomeKit, this was the absolute ideal setup experience! No app to download or account to set up. Just scanned a QR code and it was on my network and streaming in under a minute. I wish other smart home devices were this smooth. It's been working flawlessly for almost a year now.
I use the thermostat and doorbell cameras, and they work great! The doorbells were very easy to install, but I let my heating guy connect the thermostat (I had old wiring that needed to be replaced). Next up I think I'll be getting motion detectors.
The Camera has lots of features you would expect from a security camera from voice control direct and through Alexa and Google, however the amazing feature is its ability to move the camera view while monitoring to the person or object of interest. The camera actually zooms in and out and tracks the person with a usable video to identify the intruder. Its Cloud storage makes this usable from anywhere in the world. The App is good and is integrates with your other Ecobee products. The Apple HomeKit support is currently basic.
I love that the camera has HomeKit support. The way it uses AI to follow people it detects around the room is really neat. The Alexa functionality built-in is an added bonus. The styling and way the camera can sit on a surface or be configured to mount to the wall with the same stand is great design.
Note: Received product for free as part of beta test. Pros: 1. Design: looks great and fits overall ecobee look. 2. Connectivity: Easy to set up, minimal internet needs. WiFi is simple to connect to initially, although it does get tricky if you change the WiFi password due to needing to reset the device, but the settings stay in the app. 3. Power: long power cord is easy to get to a nearby outlet. 4. Usage: Sharp and crisp picture, quick zoom and adjustment, great detail at nighttime. Can easily tell faces in color and night vision. Wide angle camera is fantastic. 5. Haven - if you don't mind paying subscriptions it works really well. Cons: 1. No easy method to hard wire power or internet/LAN, thus if you want to reduce your WiFi load, or not use a power outlet, you'll need to modify your device. 2. The zoom and pan feature can slow or get buggy at times, but that has improved with software updates. 3. The ability to select areas in the app from the camera view to focus on for alerts and motion (i.e. ignoring the areas not being focused on if someone or something moves in the other areas) has never worked for me - beta testing noted the problem and we were advised that this function was being worked on. I haven't tested it in several months so it may have been fixed, but the sheer number of times the system went off resulted in recording nearly an entire night in two minute increments due to our cat zooming around the house and then sitting cleaning herself on the couch...was annoying to deal with before they added a mass delete function to recorded videos. 4. Haven - neat idea but I would prefer the ability to save the videos to a NAS or security controller hard drive or something to keep it in house.
The entire system is relatively inexpensive, yet highly functional. After learning by experimentation, I got a handle on the functioning. The SmartCamera is very functional and has the capacity to scan around the room. I love the way it automatically turns on and off when we, or more accurately our cell phones, leave or return home. I recommend that Ecobee would include a sticker saying something similar to "This home is protected by an Ecobee Security System". I'm confident that this would discourage some potential burglars. All in all, a great value for the money!
The camera is ok in the daylight and with lights on. If you want to use it at night, forget about it. Unlike the doorbell cam (which works really well at night) this one just doesn't work. It's just dark, all the time. The orientation is also terrible. If mount it on the ceiling, there is no option to flip the orientation of the camera. Overall, a very poor design and would not recommend.
Initial camera came defective. Ecobee support promptly shipped out another. Got it setup and it works great, when it works. Live view is frequently unable to load in spite of wifi signal being strong according to the device. Due to it's unreliability I recommend buying another brand
While the resolution is good, the wide angle is not so good. Previous camera had both resolution and 180 degree wide angle without fish eye effect. Also the controls for the camera can be improved. Much too sensitive and constantly turning on and sending notifications even when I am home. It seems geofencing is not available or not working. Frankly, I regret having replaced my previous cameras.
