I bought my ecobee3 in March 2016, taking advantage of the $100 rebate. I love a ton of things about the ecobee3 that the NEST can't compete with. The remote sensor, so I can put it downstairs in the family room and get a balanced comfort between floors. The iPhone App that I only had to set up once and it auto connects when I launch it, giving me quick access to everything as if I was standing in front of the unit on the wall (and I was two states away from home!). The weather summary on the main panel that I can observe as I walk by. There are just too many features that I love to list them all. My son has a NEST in his home and I have listened to him talk about it, and I am so happy that I purchased the ecobee3 instead. Don't regret your thermostat purchase, get the ecobee, either the 3 or the lite and you will be happy you did! - - - I just can't say enough, it is sooo good! - - - -
Best thermostat I've ever owned. Keeps the temperature just right because it has a plus/minus .5 degree setting. Our other thermostat was plus/minus 1 degree and the temperature swings were very annoying. Also, the remote sensors is a game changer because we can put one in both of our kid's rooms and it keeps the temps nice and steady without burning us out of our room (we stole the sensor from our lower floor thermostat because we didn't need it there, and threw it in the kid's room). We just told it to ignore the main thermostat's reading and only pay attention to the two sensors and that was the best setup for us. Great product, looks great, and has a very intuitive interface. Well done. I don't ever write reviews, but this compelled me to, it's that good!
This has been a great product for our new (to us) home. The conventional old thermostat was great but kept the downstairs cool and the upstairs was always hot. During the day if you adjusted the temp to get cooler upstairs it was too cool downstairs. At night when it was comfortable downstairs it was unbearable hot upstairs. With the ecobee 3 I am able to have another temp sensor upstairs monitoring the temp there and select which sensor I monitor at what time. This is a win because during the day my normal activities on the ground floor are comfortable and then at night the air cranks up a bit based on the upstairs sensor reading. I have this hooked to my phone through the Apple HomeKit also to allow monitoring and control from Siri as well. Overall I am very pleased. I want to integrate this with some IFTT settings to adjust dampers as well for even better control. I previously had a Nest thermostat and it worked great in my old house, but for my new configuration this thermostat is better with multiple sensor options.
Does exactly what we expected. Read a lot of reviews before purchase. Must read instructions for easy install.
Great thermostat. The reason I purchased this was because of the remote temperature sensor. Works great in a two story house. The night time temperature is set by the upstairs temp in the bedroom and the downstairs unit in the day time. I will be getting another remote sensor for another area of the home. Easy programming and easy set up. Works great with my smartthings hub and google home. I can easily control though voice commands or through the app.
Pros: Absolute control of everything with the furnacce Monitoring of furnace run time compared to other homes your size and in your community Easy to configure and use through an app or internet Cons: Always on, I wish I was able to turn the screen off if I am not in front of it I would definitely recommend this to anyone that wants to know how their furnace is running and wants to see how different changes around the house can affect performance.
My review focuses on an issue of caring for an elderly parent. The Ecobee3 was exactly what I needed to monitor the temperature of the home of an elderly parent. Care givers and well-meaning individuals would turn-up the thermostat in the home and leave it. However, if the weather warmed-up, then temperatures inside the house could reach north of 95 degrees. Not a good thing when heat-related injuries are possible and even likely in the elderly. I needed something where I could monitor the temperature and adjust if needed. It had to be reliable and simple to operate. The Ecobee3 best fit the bill after I reviewed other wi-fi thermostats. Installation was straight-forward, but I did need to contact the tech support for their guidance on some things. The wait-time for support was about 5 minutes. Overall, I had ecobee installed and running in about 25 minutes. I really like being able to set comfort temps, monitor what's going on, and changing things if need via Apple's HomeKit on my phone. This is great product that I'd recommend to anyone caring for an elderly parent from a distance.
Unfortunately had to go to another location after finding surface scratches dead center of the main unit. Not WM's fault. ecobee should add a clear screen cover for added protection. Easy install and easy to navigate. Love the dual zone with the sensors. Not sure if I've saved any money or energy yet... It looks good on my wall though!
I have trouble figuring how to set it up and getting it to fully turn on but after some trial and error I figured out how to get it working despite having wires with colors that don't match the description online or in manual (orange wire instead of blue wire for c wire). You can set up a confront level or schedule. Otherwise simply drag and leave the temperature at the level you want from your phone or on the screen. You are control without having to be in front of the thermostat. There is a slight delay in the aenor recognizing that the room is occupied or unoccupied but overal accurate.
Device did not work even after getting Ecobee support involved! When we told them the serial number on the device did not match the serial number on the box, they told us the serial number on the box was registered to someone else. We sent the device back to the seller!
