This is our 2nd ice maker, with the first being a different brand and very expensive. Granted it made fancy “clear ice”, but…. The machine was always running water to make that ice and therefore, it was too loud for a bar that is near a bedroom. Guests would ask “how do you turn that off?” It finally died, which prompted us to look for something else. This one has been perfect! 1/3 the price and has a freezer function so it actually keeps the ice as ice and does not constantly melt like the expensive machines do. We have had this for about 6 months and it works like a champ! I could not be happier!
The icemaker arrived on the day promised in perfect condition although the delivery company delivered it upside down. I unboxed the unit and let it sit for 24 hours before installing it. The installation we chose is a free standing one so it was just a matter of hooking up the water line and plugging it in. It wasn't long before the first batch of ice fell into the bin. We are extremely pleased with this unit as we are never without ice now. I recommend it.
We did not have access to a drain and adding one would have been too disruptive and costly so we sacrificed clear pretty rectangular cubes for the crescents. However, we were delighted to see that the crescent cubes are quite pretty, the unit is fairly quiet and produces ice like a boss. We highly recommend!
This is a really great handsome icemaker that I think is the best one for someone who does not have a drain for most other icemakers. And it makes a lot of ice! When the ice bin is full it's more than enough to fill up an ice bucket for cocktails and still have ice left over to chill sodas.
I really like this ice maker better than our old one that needed a drain and was very loud. This one can fill the removable bucket of ice overnight and it's very quiet. I rarely hear it making the ice. I think it's more sanitary because I can remove and clean the bucket much easier than the ice filling the whole unit. The price was good, too. Installation was easier with this model as well.
After many years with my GE Monogram perpetual "wet ice" machine, I pulled the plug and purchased this Edgestar ice maker. Very pleased I did and would recommend this product. The quality feel of the Edgestar is comparable to the GE Monogram ice machine that cost 3x as much. The Edgestar is actually quieter since it is not constantly melting and making ice. There is no need for a drain anymore. The mold buildup with the GE Monogram due to it always being wet was frustrating so it is nice not having to deal with that issue. I did purchase the 5-year extended warranty, just in case. I would have given the Edgestar a 5-star rating if only it had a light on the bin when you open the door. I do miss that about the Monogram machine.
Came extremely damaged and had to be returned to vendor.
Arrived damaged and there is nothing I can do about it apparently.
This ice maker is quite loud when producing ice, and the ice cubes tend to quickly freeze together into a solid block. Additionally, the unit itself freezes over weekly, forcing us to thaw the entire system—an annoying and messy process. If you're looking for an ice maker that functions reliably, this one may not be the best choice. However, if you don't mind frequent cleaning and maintenance of a costly appliance, it might suit your needs.
Our unit came dented slightly both front and back. While it works fine it produces regular half moon shaped cubes that are produced just like they are in a regular refrigerator / freezer and they stick together and have to be broken apart. The aspect I really do not care for with this ice maker though is that there is hardly any room to remove ice cubes. You have to pull out the tub they land in and the scoop does not work well with the cubes being stuck together. Also there is no light that turns on lilke more expensive units have. On the plus side though it is extremely quiet.
