This hitch carrier was so easy to put together. You barely needed any instructions to accomplish the task. One person can put together leisurely in an hour. Then we loaded up the carrier for our trip. It is sturdy and was secure in the hitch receiver. It did not shake or rattle during travel. We made a very good choice in selecting this hitch carrier from Apex.

Carrier is light-weight and should be easy to install/remove as needed. Some competitive products are 30 lbs. heavier. I am confident that it will be more than adequate for my needs. However, assembly instructions were inaccurate and inadequate. Nothing included pertaining to assembly of side rails (a major component). Persons with limited mechanical aptitude would likely need assistance. Parts diagram was helpful, but photo on web site of completed carrier was needed for confirmation.

Sturdy. Relatively light weight. Ramp folds in half for more compact configuration. Comes with anti wobble plate. Overall, a good product. But…. 74 fasteners for assembly. Most are small bolts %26 nuts that are fussy to work with. Figure 1 to 1.5 minutes per fastener and it adds up. It took me about 2.5 hours to assemble and I am good with mechanical projects. Hint… rest it on something at waist level. I used saw horses. The biggest negative for me is the ramps do not fold flat into the carrier basket when not in use. So storing the L shaped assembly with the ramp sticking out is not as easy as if the ramp folded out of the way into the basket.

The instructions that came with this cargo carrier seem to be for this model a while ago when it shipped more completely assembled. It took me some time to figure this out, and when I did I had only the pictures on the web site to go by. Took about two hours just to get to where the instructions start. Make sure you have 8mm and 10mm sockets and a power driver -- there are more than 60 screws and acorn nuts to assemble it. Once the main basket is assembled, fairly straight-forward and easy to complete the carrier. Attachment to vehicle is awkward for one person. Best to have two. I did not anticipate that the carrier limits the access to the hitch. Basically you have to lay on the ground to attach the hitch pin and clip. While on the ground you then tighten to bolts to the anti-tilt bracket. Once assembled and installed, the functionality and quality is good. Just more difficult to install/de-install than I expected.

My wife wanted this ramp to make it easier to haul our son's wheelchair on therapy to school, therapy, etc. It seemed like a nice alternative to modifying her SUV or continuing to wrestle with getting the wheelchair inside the hatchback area. We chose this ramp because of the light-weight folding ramp, which we thought looked nicer and created less of a distraction or safety issue when looking in the rear view mirror or parking the vehicle. THE ASSEMBLY AND INSTALLATION PROCESS WAS VERY ANNOYING. The instructions are in tiny print and there are NO illustrations other than the parts list picture. (I printed a copy from the discount ramps website. The instructions were the same but at least I could enlarge the picture and instructions this way.) There are at least 50 screws and they are not identified in the packaging. The original diagram and parts list were on a 5 x 7 page with the only diagram being about 3x4 inches in size. Given the company's lack of foresight with assembly instructions, it makes me question the discernment used when designing the carrier itself. Attaching the carrier to the vehicle was a major pain as well. I just assumed it would be fairly simple for me to remove and attach it to my truck if we decided to do so from time to time. As it is though, I doubt that we will be switching vehicles. Considering the price of this carrier compared to some others that were much cheaper, I expected it to be more user-friendly overall and am somewhat disappointed.
