I have used these in the past when I was a member of a FEMA Urban Search and Rescue Team. I bought a pair of these recently because I needed to shore up a roof and remove and rebuild a wall. They worked flawlessly and they were a safe way to accomplish my task. I have complete confidence in the entire Ellis line of products but theses screw jacks are the simplest solution for the majority of my applications.
I'm using for of these basic jacks to support an outdoor deck during replacement of a beam. Recommend some good axle grease on the threads to protect them from rust and make adjustment easy. Easy fine tuning of height, and stays put with hex nut. Great product!
These jacks were used in conjunction with 4x4 posts and 4"x8" beam to temporarily hold up floor joists while we removed a wall and put a beam in place so as to get that open feeling between kitchen and living room. Then on another job they were used in a like manner to support a porch roof while replacing a support post.
Product is spec'd anytime I have work such as this. Superior in my opinion to anything we have available in this area. Interesting job, house deviated off plumb as a result of localized blasting. In middle Tennessee we are quite close to hard pan, ( Nashville Dome, a Churt / Limestone upheaval) . So this is a growing problem. Again, thanks for a great product.
Much better quality compared to what the big box stores had to offer. 1/4 inch thick base and handle, large greased screw. Well worth the cost, purchased four. Used in a crawl space to level a sagging floor. Fast shipping! Very happy that I found Ellis!
Personally. I wouldn't use anything else. This gives me full adjustability of the supports that hold my roof line. All the previous 4x4 supports were bowed, or not supports weight at all. This allows me full adjustability. I'm just an avid diy guy. Saves thousands doing it myself.
I purchased 14 - 4x4 screw jacks to help support a 14 x 30 area in a fixer upper / major project home I just purchased. I ran them every 2 to 3 feet on a 12 foot beam with a 3 inch concrete pad under each jack. I am totally pleased with the results. They were very easy to install and adjust to level. It took a disappointing looking room back that had an obvious floor problem back to level. Thanks for a great product.
I used two of these to support a small 4' x 7'deck. I was unable to put my footings below the frost line because of water and sewer lines below the deck. With these jacks supporting the deck ( they rest on the concrete piling) I can adjust the deck if it heaves or settles. The jack is quite sturdy and easy to use. The deck does not wiggle at all. It is solid! PS: I used the galvanized version of the jack. Also, the jacks are secured to the pilings with 4 tapcons through the predrilled holes. I placed a membrane between the concrete and the jack to prevent corrosion, just in case.
After looking at several different brands, I chose this one because it looked sturdy and I could cut an existing 4x4 at the rotted base and then use it to temporarily jack one end of the beam using the existing portion of the post that was still in good shape. I was surprised at the ease of turning the screw at the base. I bought two of these so I could install a second temporary post next to the one that was rotten, and then remove the now-shortened post on the other post. This method allows me to "walk" the beam supports along the length of the beam until I replace all the rotten posts. I couldn't be happier with my selection of this screw jack.
The screw jacks work great. The paint was chipped off during shipping. Poorly shipped. Why even paint them to just to throw them into a box unsecured so all the paint can get chipped off during shipping. I spent a lot of money on the screw jacks. I have to repaint them so my investment lasts. I will not buy from Ellis again because of the poor shipping.
