I bought a house that I knew needed some better shoring in the crawl space. The existing shoring was a 4x4 post cut to fit (?) under a triple 2x main girder under the floor joists. Needless to say, the existing shoring was wholly inadequate. I bought half a dozen to replace the 4x4 shoring, placing one at each end and the other four along intermediate points between the ends. Additionally, I bolted the 2x main girder together because it was only nailed and over time the 2x's had pulled apart. I was able to get proper shoring under the 2x girder and will go back periodically to adjust the shoring until I have a level floor. In short, these shores are perfect for the intended purpose and would still be 'cheap at twice the price'. I have a second project for shoring in the crawl space and will use these shores for it as well.
As a first time home buyer I learned the hard way to verify that your home inspector did in fact, inspect your future home. After a hard rain tiles started popping up, and doors were no longer plumb. Looking under the house I saw it had been propped up on lumber scraps, Cinder blocks, a couple jack stands and what ever was on hand. With my research and a recommendation from a professional, I bought these jack posts , dug some footers and now if you spill water on my kitchen floor it stays in one place while you fetch a mop. These preformed as advertised, are of excellent manufacture and quality! I will be ordering more. Dee Hand
I am not a construction person, but felt that this jack post would work to help hold up my awning. The edge post and 2x6's have started to weather and rot. It allowed the awning to start to drop about two inches. The jack post allowed it to go back into place until I can get funds and someone to assist in securing the end post and awning.
Product is well manufactured. Looks to be built for a lifetime of use. Haven't had a chance to use them, but will most likely be pleased with the outcome. Fast shipping. Good communications by Ellis. Could use a little more thought on the shipping container. Very big container for such small items.
Hello to all, Like the jacks, but i think you should weld some type of pointed marks on top of plate. Some way to grab item being jacked to keep plate from spinning. Holes are drilled in plate, but sometimes just does not work for certain applications. Otherwise great product. Thanks Eddie
The jack came in two pieces. Easy to set up and align. The best part of it was the simplicity, structural integrity and the 1/4 inch thick pieces of steel at both the base ends. This is the best jack I found that doesn't have a thin base plate top and bottom. Only one improvement could be made. The holes in the base plates are 5 inches apart. My floor joists are 4.5 inches wide, (3 - 2x10 widths). My suggestion would be good to put two holes at 3.5 inches apart in the top base plate for the floor joist.
My house is over 60 years old and with all that time most of the supports have either fallen over or no longer touch the floor joists, with the help of the Ellis light duty shore jacks my floor is rock solid. I know they call these " light duty" but there is nothing light duty about these, solid construction give you the confidence to know that what ever project you're working on these can handle the load. These are far better than the thin gauge metal ones sold at the big box stores, far and away worth what they cost. I will be purchasing more in the future and recommending them to my neighbors who are suffering from the same problems with their homes as I did.
I used Ellis jacks on my recent project to rehab a house that had fallen into disrepair. The previous owner used smaller jacks and not the proper size lumber. I poured concrete footers and concrete block. The Ellis jack is supporting an LVL beam that is holding up new floor joists. Ellis jacks were easy to use. Study and well made. The locking wing nut is a good peace of mind that you can set it and forget it.
I took apart a wall to install a pocket door, and found that a double stud that needed to be removed was supporting a beam in the ceiling. I installed an LVL header beam, but the load was now being taken on either side by a double 2x10 floor joist about 3.5 feet from the center beam of the house. I dug 2 footers on each side in the crawl space, "poured" reinforced concrete (many buckets of dirt out, concrete in), placed a 1/4" steel plate on the footer after it cured, and an Ellis ST23 shore on each. A 5" steel I-beam was hoisted on top of the shores, and raised to support the floor joists. I appreciated the hefty construction of the Ellis Manufacturing shores, and the quick service in obtaining them.
The previous home owners had upgraded the kitchen with New Cabinets, Granite Countertops and Tile Floors. Adding more weight to the area without adding the proper support over a 14’ span. Subsequently the floor joist had started to sag after 10+ years. With the help of 5 Ellis jack posts and a 24’ beam, the kitchen is now back to the proper height. Thank You Ellis MFG!
