Awesome

George December 1, 2016

I was going to make similar jacks, but these will work awesome. My plan would be to put a 8 inch piece of pvc x 1-1/2 installed centered in the concrete while pouring the sonotube. Then just reverse the jack, inserting the inch and a quarter bolt in the pvc, and still anchor the plate.

Great to lift a post or beam up to 5"

Christian Kelley April 12, 2020

I used two of these to lift a sunroom 2.5". I recommend using 5/16" x 1-1/4" lag screws to attached to post or making the holes in the screw jack plate slightly larger and using 3/8" x 1-1/2" lag screws. There's a bit of tension on these lag screws when you're turning the U shaped handle to lift the supported weight. Great affordable solution that give an effective range of vertical adjustment.

Inexpensive, heavy-duty jack.

Stephen February 19, 2017

Inexpensive and space efficient. Bought many of these to create auxiliary beams in my crawlspace to provide more support. If you want a heavy-duty, industrial-strength jack at a good price, here it is. Don’t consider cheaper jacks at the “big box” stores if you want peace of mind. These are similar to the SJ-4 jack, except you must drill a hole in the middle of the 4x4. So, a little more effort but these can squeeze into tighter spaces and they’re less bulky. Great value.

Lifted my cabins sag of 3"

Aaron Janachovsky November 28, 2021

Worked great, I have a cabin that I built on 3 huge logs spanning like 30' sitting on piers. Over the last 5 years or so it sagged 3.5 " I put one under each log in the mid point and easily got everything back to level, was surprised how much they would lift. Exactly what I needed.

Thank you Ellis for your fantastic products!

Thomas Fiebrandt April 13, 2020

Our home was built in the Early 1900's. We do not know the exact date of the construction but the best we can figure out is some time in 1902. Our home was of modest construction for the time and features a single floor with 11.5 foot ceilings and a hip roof. The home is built on a crawlspace with a single center true 6"x6" support beam on 3 concrete columns with true 2"x8" American Chestnut Joists spanning 16 feet from the exterior foundation wall to the center beam. Over the past century this has led to significant bowing in the joists which warranted adding additional support. Some time in the 1960s a previous owner constructed a haphazard support structure to shore up the floor using all sorts of mixed construction products including brick, cinder block, and lumber. I must say that navigating these hazards in the tightly confined space was a bit worry-sum for myself and crew which consisted of my younger brother and my brother-in-law. After cleaning up 100 years of debris in the first section we finally had space and light to work. We started close to our only crawlspace entrance and worked our way under the whole home ensuring that we only lifted the house as much as necessary to shore up the floors without causing any catastrophic damage to the old and creaky structure. After several days we managed to get the house properly supported and I have been able to significantly level the structure over the last several weeks. Thank you Ellis for your fantastic products!

Safely jacked up floor.

Don Wardlow December 13, 2020

This is the tool that I feel safe using to jack heavy beams. It can't collapse suddenly like a pneumatic jack can. The plate surfaces are strong so no distortion occurs. I'm planning to use these jacks to raise a three story deck that has fallen as well.

Works with Pre-made Concrete Footer Blocks

Steven Doleac September 22, 2016

I searched high and low, but when I found the Ellis Timber Jacks, I knew they would work perfect! I inverted the Timber Jack so they would work with the pre-made concrete footer block. And where space was really tight, the MJ3 - Ellis Mini Jack was able to fit and get the lift I needed.

Timber Jacks perfect for the job

David Ottinger December 3, 2017

We’re restoring oak sills in a 1760s Cape Cod historic house Museum and needed a consistent low profile jacking system to support the ceiling framing yet have room to manipulate the new sills below. The timber jacks were cost- effective, allowed for many adjustments and have worked well. My only concern is some of the screws, near the bottom, were painted and we had to initially force them to turn; once we freed them up, they were fine. It is an easy fix.

Timber Jack

Kevin Faust October 31, 2018

They are beefy! Look like they will last forever. My install will be exposed to the elements as Im using them to support an out building that was falling down a hill. Time will tell how they hold up. My only complaint is the hole that needed drilled in the end of the timber, it would have helped had Ellis offered some suggestions as to where to get that big of a drill bit. Now that I have secured the drill bit, I wouldn't hesitate to use them again. Kevin Faust Indiana

3 stars- somewhat disappointed

Nathan Kleinert August 13, 2017

I ordered 4 timber jacks. The day arrived to use the jacks to lift a sagging beam in the middle of my 100 year old home. During the mounting procedure one of the plates would not spin on the threads freely as the other three did. I had to clamp one end in my bench vise and use a rubber mallet to turn the plate on the threads. After running plate completely to the end, it turned freely. Maybe the threads were just dirty? also on the same plate I noticed the thread collar was not welded evenly and this causes the plate to wobble when turned. this was visible to naked eye and measuring with a dial caliper confirmed my observation. this causes the bottom of the lifting post to move back and forth about 1/2 of an inch per revolution, causing it to be out of plumb. I will just have to use extra caution with this one jack. The other three jacks work as intended. Hope this was just a fluke and not representative of quality control. The saying is "2 out of 3 ain't bad", I'll just say 3 out of 4, but I still got the job done. Thanx for your time, Nate
