This printer prints amazing. I will say though, and the reason for my 4 star instead of 5 star, is there is a learning curve. Perhaps it is just me. I use an ipad. On my old Epson ET 2800 (i think) I could just send whatever to printer. When i use that technique for this printer the printed page is not formatted properly. The only way i could get the page to look like the picture i was printing was to use the Epson app. So then I had to learn how to use that. And this printer is a little fussy about its paper. I had to learn to change paper settings when I print on different types of paper. With my old printer it didn't matter. Everything printed the same whether it was photo paper or plain copy paper. Of course the vibrance was different, but the ink going on the paper seemed to be the same. And with this printer you need to do routine maintenance. I did not know that until i ran into printer issues. First, the black ink was smearing. Next the paper kept getting stuck in the printer. There is a menu for maintenance. I am sure all this is online somewhere but who looks for that? It the ‘olden days' printers and pretty much everything else came with manuals that you could thumb through. Fortunately I have ChatGPT and use it daily so Chat told me how to do the maintenance and now my printer is once again printing beautifully. I do a lot of printing. I had this for probably a month and my ink is already half gone. That is not a complaint. I do a lot of printing. I use the printer for craft projects. You will not be disappointed in the quality of prints you get from this printer but you may get a small headache or frustrated like I did.
Of the printers I looked at, this was the lowest price range, with significantly cheaper ink than the alternatives. I wasn't expecting great quality, but was hoping it was 'good enough'. The quality is amazing, better than anything I have ever had professionally printed, ink doesn't go down too fast & the connection apps are pretty good. I have only used matte paper, so can't say for glossy but would assume similar results. Vibrant colours, dark blacks. Cons: - have to disconect/reconnect from wifi sometimes, when this happens it will try to start printing from a queue of random stuff that has already been printed. On a calibrated screen, the you will need to raise the shadows, and magents will shift slightly more to the red side. Easy to work around after a few test prints.
2 years and still happy. I had multiple printers throughout the years and this one is far the best. My last one was the ET-2850 which was decent but did not have the photo quality I was looking for but is good for the kids. This ET-8550 prints out beautiful 13" X 19" photos from my drone shots to close ups of my pets with amazing results. Exercise it regularly with nozzle checks to avoid ink drying up on print heads like most printers and you should get worry free usage for years. Avoid 3rd party inks as I had to learn the hard way. Old non Epson 4" X 6" paper will only work threw the top feeder. The maintenance box has a chip which tracks its usage which makes cleaning it out a waste of time requiring new ones. If you are thinking of upgrading from smaller units, this is a excellent choice.
I have went back and forth with epson and now the seller trying to get a printer that all the functions on the printer work. If you try to make a copy or scan in a document every picture is blurry. The print function on the printer regularly works so you think that everything will work on the printer. Make sure you seller on Walmart website is not a third party and its from epson directly. I bought the extra warranty and I can't even get help using that because its still up under the 1 year manufacture they don't want to help because its the 3rd party I bought off of Walmart.
I love the wide format for photos. It's more challenging to setup than the ET-8500 - I finally did it on my own. I had to call Epson on the 8550 after trying for a week on my own. The quality and warranty are wonderful features. And, of course, the the ink tanks save a lot of money compared to ink cartridges. The even have special ink for photos that doesn't fade over time. The ultra wide format feature is really designed for a business. Walmart had the best price.
I'm a little late on the review on this so far this seems like a very good printer I got it for the purposes of making merchandise and I could even print using my phone which means to hook up was very simple I kind of wish it came with direct to film ink instead of it's standard ink in the beginning cuz I had a bike separately but that's the only complaint if any it's a very big printer which will allow me to make blankets and curtains and far more I'm excited to see the results of the products I'm going to be making with this it's a very practical and useful product
I've had the ET-8550 for two weeks now. I purchased the printer to handle the marketing material for my business, as well as the occasional photo print for myself (I still run an Epson Stylus Pro 3880 for the bulk of my large scale photo printing requirements). Based on the output of everything that I have tried to far, I am very pleased with the quality, speed, and ease of use of the machine. Would certainly recommend this machine.
I've been using Epson Printers for many years starting with an Epson Stylus Photo 925. Several printers later, I finally acquired the ET-8550. All I can say is wow! Amazing results printing the photos from my photography gallery. Printer setup was a breeze and the EcoTank system is a welcome feature. I would highly recommend this printer to photographers or small art businesses looking for an economical solution for printing professional quality images.
So far I've purchased four Epson printers over the years and this EcoTank Photo ET-8550 is by far the best printer I've ever owned. It's easy to setup and operate (I operate it from my Asus desktop). The photo prints are immaculate and since I'm an artist and painter, this is very important to me. I'm very, very pleased with this awesome printer.
Been searching for an eco-tank photo printer that can handle card stock and photo paper flawlessly, and after much trial and error, found this one which was perfect for my needs. I'll even be able to make photo calendars with it thanks to the wide print.
