The craftsmanship of the printer is superb. The print quality, superb. The instructions superb. There isn't a single thing wrong with this printer. It's a professional quality printer at a very affordable price. Worth twice the cost.
Excellent. My Stylus 2200, which I used for over a decade, was starting to wear out. I was leery of buying a new printer. But the P800 is simply excellent. Set up was a breeze. Up and running in about as much time as it takes to open the box and pull out the cords, remove the tape and set up the connection. I haven't tweaked my screen to color yet because the printer has done such a good job already. I work in batches, sometime going a week or two without printing. I had read some comments about the ink not working if you didn't use it every day. I don't know what those folks are talking about. P800 has become my workhorse and I really like it. Ink cartridges are much more expensive but they seem to last quite a long time. I do a lot of fine art printing. I highly recommend this printer.
This machine is a replacement for and Epson 3800 due to random ink discharge . In many ways the two printers are very similar. This made the change over very easy. I have no technical proof but in my opinion the P800 is superior in matching colour from the screen and clarity of the image. Both machines have the advantage of taking up to 17x22 paper size which for me is a definite advantage.
The printer is well made, and easy to hook up and get operating. It will be a great addition to my other 3 Epson printers, and replaces my 4880. However, there is an issue with the Roll Paper Unit. The Roll Paper Unit hook-ups are about 1/8 inch off, which doesn't permit me to open the feed door to allow roll paper to be feed to the printer. I am working with Epson to get this resolved.
This printer does an excellent job right out of the box. If you use only Epson papers such as the glossy and matte and use standard paper sizes, the printers built in .icc profiles and controls are fine. My only reason for holding back on 5 star rating is the documentation (instructions) provided by epson. I had to experiment to find out which controlled the printing parameters when using photoshop or light room with third party papers. Does the printer or software determine paper size and paper type or do you have to set it on both the printer LED and in the software. More clear instructions from Epson would be helpful!
I am on my second p800 printer, and the prints are great. However, I recommend that if you print fine art don't use the front manual feed tray. You have to disable the sensing of paper type to do it but use the sheet feeding tray. It works on even 17" wide paper. Also, I still can't get the driver to save user-defined sizes. I can access the file to another computer on the network and it works fine. If I use my Windows 10 computer it defaults to letter-size. I have not figured out any other way to get around that problem.
The plus column has the ability to use roll paper (if you pay extra for a adapter) and it is wireless. Yeah I can move iy anywhere I want. The top feed does not work good with large format such as 13x19 or 17x22 even though they recommend you use it. I have had too many sheets get destroyed already. And the worst thing Epson did was to alter the ink cartridges from the 3880 so that they will not work in the P800. I mean come on give me a break I have all this ink from my 3880 that are exactly the same size cartridge but they altered it so will not fit.
When it prints fully the results are beautiful; the problem is there is a 'communication error' partway through printing ALL THE TIME! I have wasted so much ink and so much expensive paper getting half prints. This is a very common issue if you google this printer. The print will in no way resume where it left off and I have to start again with a fresh sheet. The problem persists with both WiFi and USB connection.
I have owned the 3800, 3880, plus smaller Epson printers and loved them. This printer is the worst printer I have owned. Print images look great when they print. I keep getting communication errors (only printer that gives me that out of the three Epson that I own) and one corner is always bent with ink marks. Both of these are complaints I have found on google searches but no solutions found yet.
I've had my P800 for a little over a year. Works fine when running paper. But when running sheet canvas in it, it claims the canvas loaded skewed even when it did not, and after a few tries, has damaged the canvas. I am finding I am able to utilize less than half of my 17"x22" sheet canvas.
