I was having trouble with a different brand of Contact Lens Solution and decided to try this one a while back. I had much better results with this one. It cost less and I'm not allergic to it, so it is a "Win, Win"!!!
In these days of almost exclusive use of soft contact lenses, it is almost impossible to find a solution that is made for Rigid Gas Permeable contact lenses which I still use. Except for one other brand, to which I am allergic, I have not been able to find a solution other than Walmart's own Equate brand. I have used it successfully and comfortably, and have relied on it for years. I am grateful that Walmart still supplies this solution for me and others like me.
I recently bought the most expensive popular brand. It was too thick or viscous. Was very hard to rinse off and left the contact lens container very sticky. This brand is much better and a lower price.
Equal quality to Bausch and Lombe without the price
I was looking for a less expensive alternative to Bausch & Lomb Boston conditioning solution (original formula), and this definitely fits the bill. After soaking overnight in this solution, my contacts feel comfortable in my eyes from the moment they go in until I take them out 11-12 hours later. For those RGP contact wearers who don't like the viscosity of the original (i.e. not Advance) Boston conditioning solution, this solution is probably not for you.
I always used the name brand "original solution" and then it got too hard to find and I bought the "advanced". However, I kept having a problem with my eyes and mucus (I know -- sounds gross). The Walmart brand solution is thinner, but very comfortable (good pH balance). Definitely worth purchasing!
I tried the Walmart Equate brand and like it better than the Boston I was using . It also costs less so I like the savings.
The person who loved this product -- as I did -- because it was thinner and not goopy in the eyes, will be disappointed that they recently changed manufacturers. The new stuff is unusable, in my opinion, because it is very thick & goopy. I can soak my lenses in it, but cannot use it as a conditioning solution in my eye. It took me a long time to find the Equate contact lens conditioning solution and it was a great value -- I bought probably 18 bottles a year. In early August 2012 the formula & manufacturer changed. I'm now on the hunt for new stuff and won't be using this again. (A few years back when I liked it, Equate was made by Lobob -- stated right on the bottle. Now it just says Walmart on the bottle so I could guess who makes it, since there aren't that many manufacturers of contact lens solution, but wouldn't know for sure).
I recently learned this this the hard way as well. The first thing I noticed was the smaller package (3.5 vs 4). Then the viscosity - much thicker. obviously the decision was made by someone who doesn't have a clue about contact lenses. The old product was made by Lobob, and I'm guessing the new one is a Boston product as it is very similar in the heavy viscosity. I've tried Boston - no thank you. Today is a holiday but I plan to call WalMart customer service tomorrow. I strongly urge everyone to do the same. I actually called them once before on something and actually talked to a real person.
I have been using Equate gas perm lens cleaner for years! It was the BEST! The new formula is the WORST. It's milky white in color and does a HORRIBLE job of cleaning the lenses and is VERY DIFFICULT to rinse off! PLEASE go back to the original formula. This stuff is AWFUL!
