We are planning a summer camp for our students and wanted to incorporate Estes rockets as an engaging project. After comparing several websites, we found that Walmart offered the best price along with the fastest shipping. Walmart also has a very lenient return policy, which gave us confidence in moving forward with the purchase, knowing we could easily return them if we encountered any issues.
Price was Good, Delivery was in 2 days! The only thing I did not care for was that even though I purchased 18 of one item, the delivery messages I got from Walmart indicated there were 4 items in it. (I was initially concerned only 4 of the 18 items in my order were actually being delivered. But found it was that the 18 ordered pieces were coming in 4 packages.) I would suggest Walmart change their messages to indicate 4 "Packages" were coming, not 4 "Items". That is what all other vendors do.
used pack for a Cub Scout activity and went very well.
This package contains 12 Estes Alpha 111 rocket kits. The Alpha is everyones first rocket. Its easy to build, looks cool and flys great! The price is a super value! I use these with my grandkids as well as the rocket club for kids that I lead.
Easy to assemble, good price, lots of fun for the kids and family.
I bought this set along with the the Estes Generic E2X, and Quest Starhawk. I was very disappointed in the quality of the Alpha III kit and it did not lead to a positive launch for my students. First, the body tube is wrapped with a shiny black paper that peals off. It is so shiny that the launch lugs, using Elmers glue, would not stay on and the instructions did not state to scuff up the surface. The attachment point in the nose cone is a small eyelet that screws into a small piece of plastic. Some eyelet screws would screw in while others would not. This eyelet was so small that students had a hard time getting the parachute and shock chord tied to it. One student, after getting it tied, just pulled it out of the nose cone. The nose cone is hollow and on three occasions, the parachute ejected into the hollow nose cone and stayed there during freefall. The parachute did not open. Speaking of nose cone and body tube, it comes packed with the nose cone inserted backwards into the body tube. This made one end of the body tub fit loose either when attaching the nose cone or the fin assembly. Several rockets, when glued, ended up being crooked and would not launch straight. The way the shock chord is attached to the inside of the rocket is so old school. Shock chords should be a piece of kevlar and tied to the motor mount. If you do use this folded paper method, do not use that from the instructions. The glue makes the paper too soft and is a nightmare for students to work with. Use copy paper instead. The motor mount had a good build and was centered as long as you measure correctly and place each ring where you should. I am sorry, I just cannot recommend this for a child's first flight. The Quest Starhawk kit was by far a much easier build and 100% successful
