This engraving pen came with little test blocks of leather, acrylic, wood, and metal so I was able to test the pen on all the surfaces before using it on a built project or tool. The instruction manual is easy to understand and goes over all 31 of the different tips that came with the pen telling you what each one does. It operates cordless and charges using a short USB cord that is provided, it was charged fully within 20 minutes. The pen also included a sheet of stencils with a nice variety of images to trace and play with. It was a nice little added bonus. There is a digital display screen that shows you the progress of the battery charging and a LED light to light up your work surface. You can also adjust the speed of the rpms up to 20,000 rpms. The cap is very lightly magnetized onto the pen, that part is not the greatest and could be much stronger but it's certainly not a deal breaker. The pen is lightweight and very comfortable to hold, easy to use, and pretty easy to change the tips using the included allen wrench. This is very thoughtfully designed and made well.

I'd never tried engraving before this, and my goodness is it fun! I feel as qualified as a dentist! Jk, I'll need a lot of practice, but that's part of the fun. This engraver is quite simple to operate, and the basic concept is literally almost like drawing. It's lightweight and comfortable, but also sturdy and durable, though I'm not sure why the plastic cap needs to be able to rotate.  I love the large variety of bits, but I do think they could be matched up in the case a bit better. No biggy, though. Tips: - Do your outlines in fine tip permanent marker, not something that could grind into your work.  - Invest in dust masks and safety glasses. This engraver doesn't kick up a ton of dust, but I don't think any amount would be good to breathe in. And better to be safe than sorry with the eyes!  - Practice material samples are included, but get yourself an array of cheap or repurposed materials to practice on. Small blank hanging signs, stones, picture frames, buckets, keychains, rings, etc. Use your imagination! It's great for all sorts of crafts. Clay plant pots are really soft and satisfying to engrave!  - Painted materials or those with a finish are easier to practice on.  - If you don't have one, get yourself a small adjustable head lamp to make your focused lighting better. - Be patient and enjoy the learning process! :)

Charged it the rest of the way and tried one of the stencils it came with on a piece of older resin. This will be fun!! It is easy to hold and control. Bit changing is very smooth and quick. It is a great little collet. I will get a lot of use out of this. I quick coated the carving in an iridescent shift acrylic just to see how it looks and it did what i hoped it would. Lots of ideas in my head now… This is a great gadget to gift to anyone who likes to create. Now i want one with a 1/4” collet so i can use this hand held version with my other bits instead of the jet loud foot pedal system i currently have lol. Is there a 1/4” collet one of these too?? Love this thing!

This is a great gift for a teen boy. Gets him off his games, makes him use his hands constructively, makes him focus. The swatches of material it comes with is great for practice before moving on to a bigger project.
