Sturdy easy to assemble and long eye hooks option .. well done … more for door ways and wide door ways not directly on top of steps . Bottom is fine also
I purchased this gate for my porch so my dog (pit bull) won't escape, and it is performing very well. It was very easy to install, only needed to measure and drill 4 holes. It is quite sturdy and works well for a 53" opening. I like it because it can swing both ways or expand/retract and it is easy to open with one hand as advertised.
I'm using this for our baby daughter (a walking 10 month old) and we also have 3 beagles and I can say that it works great for both. Great for the value!!! Since it swing both ways on either side and it comes with 4 sets of eye screws we can make it cover two openings with same door. Super easy/quick to install!!
We just purchased a second set of these gates because the first set was amazing. We didn't use them in the traditional way and they held up really well. We had the first set outside for six years to keep our baby goats off the deck. They were pushed and shoved and climbed over by a couple of labs almost daily. They finally succumbed to too much weather and hard use and we replaced them. I think if they can withstand our use, they should last forever inside against a few little people.
The gate is a really pretty color combination, the black plastic top with the dark brown wood railing. I used it on the bottom of my stairs because I was having a hard time finding a gate that was wide enough and also provided some flexibility to use in that area.
Purchased this gate to contain 2 - 100 pounders (German Shepherds). Yes, this gate does its job. I wanted one of those cheap white plastic ones - but could not find it so settled for a heavier duty wood one. Have had the same one on another door way for over two years. The dogs jump up on it with their paws - but the gate is still sturdy and no problems.
I bought this gate after many hours of research, trying desperately to find a swing open gate for a narrow doorway. It definitely does its job keeping my crawling twins out of the kitchen. However, while I've learned how to hook a finger into the gate and open it with one hand, I have not yet figured out how to close it, lining up both hooks, without using both hands. For my staircase, I use the NorthStates Supergate Easy Swing and Lock and I like it much better. However, for smaller areas that leave you with less options, I would recommend the Evenflo Expansion.
I have had this model in the past which has since gone through a redesign. I was much happier with the older version which had more substantial mounting hardware. Current hardware is flimsy by comparison. Also, they added a cover of sorts to protect finger pinching as the gate is retracted to open. It did not last a week before experiencing breakage and persistent problems. In my opinion, the addition of the of the guard was not necessary and poorly executed. Couple the above with a much inflated price and I am very disappointed.
One latch was broken when the gate arrived. We tried installing it anyway. The 2 yr old could open the latch that was operating properly. Even though the older model latch is harder to open, it lasts. We have two of those.
Plastic piece on top was broke when I opened it . Says not eligible for return. I called local Walmart they won’t take it back very disappointed no more ordering on line
