We are typically users of a big name brand. I was trying to save some money, so I tried this brand. Buy, I'm sure glad I did! They burned evenly. And gave great flavor. We did burgers, chicken, and ribs. They lasted a long time and held temp. This is now my go to. Definitely would recommend!
This charcoal added a nice element to my dinner tonight. The briquets were simple to use and added a great flavor with the oak and hickory. I'm eager to continue using and experimenting with it. I received product reimbursement in exchange for my honest review.
The Best Ever! Actually has wood chips mixed into the brix! We grilled Rib Eye steaks and the taste was AMAZING! Will be trying all the different flavor varieties!
I love this charcoal and have been using it for several years now. I only rate it 4 stars on quality because it's a little harder to start than Kingsford. But at the price, you can't beat it!
don't know if it's me or the charcoal. i put starter on it, let it sit for about 5 min and light. it still won't light so i put more on. then it lights. but it won't necessarily burn all the way. i am a newbie so it could be something in doing wrong. maybe i open it up too much or not enough.
Compared to the other varieties of expert grill charcoal that I've used, this one is most disappointing. Takes way longer than 15 minutes to be ready to use and doesn't last nearly as long. Flavor is good, but just disappointing compared to the other varieties.
This charcoal does NOT perform well at all. It is made of lightweight “loose” briquettes which don't hold heat for long. Unfortunately I must go back to the more expensive name brands in order to prevent ruining dinner.
50 plus years of using Charcoal briquettes and This stuff is the absolute worst lighting and burning stuff I've ever tried and the worst is the foul smell and off taste it imparts on the meat. The stuff takes twice or more as long to light if ever and the foul smell of sulfur and others I can't identify to the point of neighbors asking what on earth am I burning. I bought 2 bags with high hopes and used about half to 3/4 of the first bag and finally said that's it, threw that bag and the other unopened bad in the trash and made notes to steer clear of this junk. The briquettes look ok with small pieces of some sort of wood, now I'm wondering what it was, smells like pallet wood or worse to me when it's burning. Not sure what fillers they are using but it's nasty for sure. You've been Warned !!
Expert Grill 16lb Fivestar Charcoal Oh, My God 5 Star should be called 0 Star. This product wouldn't ignite up, used a whole bottle of lighter fluid been outside for an hour trying to ignite the charcoal, all it did was smoke and more smoke and more smoke and more smoke. I used the leaf blower to get the smoke to calm down with no luck at all, still the charcoal wouldn't ignite you at 5 Star ruined my July 4th barbecue I will never purchase again, staying with KingSFord Charcoal. ........Fivestar is useless!
Smells great. Tragically super inconsistent. By the time the coals are ready in my chimney, some will burn for hours, and some instantly turn to ash. They struggle to hold any kind of heat because most of them fall apart and dissolve into ash. Will stick to royal oak or kingsford original in the future
