I bought a new computer and realized that the CD drive was not in the tower. I am 75 and not computer savvy. I have CD computer games that I installed on the old computer. I do not download any games etc on my computer. I bought this external CD drive to install my old games on the new computer. I was hesitant but finally plugged it in and installed some of my games . The ease of installation surprised me. The hook up to my computer was easy and worked perfectly. The performance of the external drive was somewhat slower but this works perfectly. Thank you ! The construction of this external drive is sturdy and works great.

Since most modern computers no longer come with internal optical drives, I was wanting to get a clam shell DVD drive so that I could back up my DVD collection to my Plex Server. I chose the clam shell option so that loading / ejecting motors failing wouldn't be an issue and at this price I went ahead and bought 2 so that I have a backup. I have used this drive about 12 times now and backups are flawless and it was plug and play ready with no software to install.

I had bought a different one awhile back but the quality of that one was horrible. I bought this one in hopes of it working better. I'm glad I decided on this one. it reads so much better. I was able to burn CDs with ease

I purchased this drive to use on a 2009 Mac Mini running Mint Linux. The clam style appealed to me for ease of removing disks--no more poking a paper clip into a hole to release the disk tray. On this one, I simply open the lid to lift out the disk. I also like that does not have an attached cord--that's why my last drive failed; the cord went bad. On this one, I can get a new cord if this one fails. I also like that it has a separate power cord (note that it does not include the power block.) There is a blue LED across the front that lights when the power is attached. It can be turned off by a small switch on the back. I down-rated to 4 stars because this drive is rather sensitive to scratched disks. So far, I've been able solve this problem by scrubbing the scratches with toothpaste and rinsing. Also please note, that I have only been ripping audio CDs. I have not burned any disks nor attempted to read DVD disks.

I couldn't see any instructions about how to make my laptop work with this player, and whatever help came with the device was printed in an exceedingly tiny font. So, it took me a few days of hunting for answers with Google searches, but once I went into Settings and got the laptop %26 player working together, it starts playing another DVD right off. So, I'm pleased to now be able to play all my old movies or TV shows on DVD and pause to take screenshots for use in my fan group, but still irritated that manufacturers of laptops no longer include built-in DVD Players in their products. Sure glad somebody invented the External players to help us get around that problem.

Works decently, have not had any issues. The multiple cables is a bit annoying.

I want to like this drive as it is exactly what I need, features wise. However, I am using an iMac 24 M3sss with OS 15.6.1 and the computer will just not recognize it. It seems to be getting power OK, but there is no connection/recognition. I would love to know where to get some tech help as I don't really want to send it back.
