Number ONE Paring Knife!

crossdraw November 5, 2015

The Faberware Edgekeeper 3 1/2” Parer with Self Sharpening Sheath (Knife), is the usual well made Faberware product. It is very sturdy and looks great. It has a high-carbon, stainless blade with a ergonomically designed handle for comfort while cutting. With its Self-Sharpening Sheath, this makes a great duo for a long lasting, sharp product to be used for years and years! The knife, with its 3 1/2” inch blade, is so versatile in its usage that it is one knife you just can’t do without in the kitchen. If you could only have two knifes, this definitely would be one of them! The Self-Sharpening Sheath is another great product and one that will not only keep the knife sharpened properly for each use, but a overlooked plus is that it will extend the life of the knife for years. Sharpening this knife, or any knife, by hand and not knowing what you are doing will greatly reduce the useful life of the knife! Plus, it is sharpened each and every time it comes out of the Sheath and is ready to go! The Knife is also protected when not in use, by being in the Sheath. This Sheath is truly a dual use product for many years of faithful service.

Great Addition to your Kitchen

GreenTree October 31, 2015

This knife is just the right size for my hand. It is very sharp. I like that it has a sheath to keep it covered and sharpened. Just wash with hot water and a little soap, hand dry and cover with sheath. I was taught to never put knives in a dishwasher or allow them to soak in water. I used the knife for the first time cutting up a shoulder roast into 4” pieces so I could cook it in my pressure cooker. The roast was about 3 ½ “ thick. It cut right through the meat. The knife itself is lightweight. This knife will also come in handy when cutting up smaller grape tomatoes or fruit. I’m not sure I would use it to peel potatoes as I prefer another gadget for that job. I think this knife will last a long time. We live on the lake and I will have to watch my husband so that he doesn’t sneak it outside to his fish cleaning table.

Nice Knife for Peeling and Chopping

Wbuy November 15, 2015

Farberware Edgekeeper 3.5" Parer with Self-Sharpening Sheath is a nice addition to my kitchen knives. I cut and peel apples more than three times per week and was in need of a good paring knife that stays sharp. When I saw the Farberware Parer, I wanted to give it a try since I already have another Farberware ceramic knife that I am very happy with. This paring knife has not let me down. The things I like are the handle, color, blade cover with self-sharpening and the size. The handle is a good fit for my hand and still felt comfortable after peeling and chopping a bag of apples. With all the different colors you can get in knives now, I really prefer the basic black handle. The blade cover is a must for me. I have two small children, one of which can open child-proof drawers now. It makes me feel a bit more at ease when his little hands reach into the silverware drawer knowing sharp knife blades are covered. As a bonus, this knife cover has an added sharpener inside. I thought this was such a neat idea. So each time the knife is put into the cover and taken out, the blade gets sharpened. A sharp knife is a nice added benefit to peeling skins off fruit and vegetables. The size is right for a good paring knife. I have had some over the years that were too small but I find this one to be perfect. I should note that like many knives the package says it should not go in the dishwasher. I must admit I have tossed it in without the cover and it came out looking good as new.

Comfortable Handle, Stays Sharp.

ChancetoBuy November 4, 2015

The Farberware name is what drew me to this knife, since the name has always stood for quality and durability. I have pans that are over 40 years old and still look new. The Farberware EdgeKeeper comes with its own sharpening sleeve, how amazing is that? The package states that the handle is ergonomically designed for comfort during cutting. It also comes with a lifetime warranty. The three and a half inch paring knife is a good size for fruits and vegetables. I first tried it on a red delicious apple with some thick skin and noticed right away how good the handle felt in my hand. It was comfortable and gave me very good control of the blade. With my arthritis, this is very important to say the least. My hand tires easily when I am cutting with another knife. That alone, made me fall in love with this paring knife immediately. Especially when using smaller knives, the handle is important. The knife blade was sharp and cutting very easy since the knife is well balanced. It's good to know that Farberware's reputation for quality still stands. I am now planning on replacing some of my other knives with Farberware EdgeKeepers. This is a very comfortable knife that should continue to stay sharp with every use.

Awesome knife

Sue811 November 13, 2015

Farberware's Edge Keeper 3.5" Parer with a Self Sharpening Sheeth, I compared this knife with two other Chef's knifes I bought and I made sure that they were all sharp for this test. So I tried them on cutting a tomato, and some block cheese and finally on an onion. So with the tomato knife one sliced right thru it, knife two also sliced right thru it, and knife three the Farberware Edge Keeper 3.5 Parer hesitated (dimpled) the outer skin but went thru the rest of the tomato with out a problem. Then I tested the same three knives on semi hard block cheese, all three sliced it the same and all three had cheese stick on them, that is not to surprising, I have not found a knife yet that it won't stick to. Then in to the onion, knife one and two did not have any trouble and knife three which again is the Farberware Edge Keeper 3.5" Parer hesitated but with a little more pressure went right thru the onion. The Farberware Edge Keeper 3.5" Parer blade is a little in the thick side and is tapered to a point. After using the knife I used the sharpening part of the Sheeth that came with the knife, to make sure that the blade remains sharp and ready to use. I have been looking for a new Parer since my favorite last one got lost, I am very pleased with this knife and yes I would recommend this knife to family and friends.

Great knife!

mosam11 November 16, 2015

Overall, I am really happy with this knife. I love that it has a cover, so that it keeps our fingers safe while sitting in the drawer. The size of the handle is great – perfect amount of space for my hand to hold the knife and it’s comfortable to hold. I love how easily it slices the food, and stays consistent the whole time. It doesn’t get a food buildup on it that needs washed off after every few slices. I haven’t really done anything with the sharpener or noticed much of a difference – even though it sharpens the knife every time you put it back in the cover or take it out of the cover. But, I am glad to have that because I would think that the more I use this knife over the time, there will be a need to sharpen it! I have found it so easy to clean just in the sink – very quickly. I have not put it in the dishwasher other than the first time, and it came out clean and was still in good condition. The quality seems to be really great. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a good, quality paring knife.

The pairing knife is a must have kitchen tool.

1cookielady November 8, 2015

The Faberware 3 1/2 inch pairing knife comes with its own self sharpening tool inside a protective sheath. Each time you slide the knife in and out of the sheath the knife slides across the sharpener. I find that there is a slight space when storing the knife back into the sheath. I had to actually make sure to have the knife touching the sharpener in order for the sharpener to work. The paring knife is a small straight edge knife and the function of a pairing knife is to perform small tasks such as peeling or carving fruits and vegetables. It is easier to hull a strawberry using a pairing knife by using the tip of the knife to cut out the stem and carve out the white core. Another use for the knife is to devein shrimp. Cut a shallow slit down the back of the shrimp then remove the dark vein and rinse the shrimp. I bought an apple to see how well the knife performed. I usually use an apple corer/slicer then use a pairing knife to peel the skin off. For my test I just used the pairing knife to cut the apple. I thought it was a little harder to cut the apple in half then in wedges with such a short blade. I would rather use the apple corer/slicer first then peel with the pairing knife. Pairing or peeling the apple wedges worked just fine. It was easy to peel the skin away from the apple. I then cut the slices into small little chunks. The knife did a good job for this task. The feel of the knife in my hand was comfortable enough. However I think the knife would be more comfortable if the handle was made of some type of rubber for a better grip. If you had a lot of fruit to peel or hull then it would definitely be beneficial. The pairing knife is one of my favorite kitchen tools to use.

Decent knife, sharpener not so much.

Loxz November 2, 2015

The 3.5” Faberware Knife with “Edgekeeper” was a free product to review, so I can't comment on the pricing. The packaging was plastic and not so easy to get into. I'm okay with that, as it's good that it shouldn't come out easily. The packaging contained the knife and a sheath. No papers or anything else of note. The packaging has instructions on how the knife should be used and maintained. Clearly and concisely written. The knife, upon inspection seemed to be well made. The handle is plastic and was smooth. No lines that rubbed my hand as I gripped it. Th metal part of the knife looked like it was shaped well. Has a decent point and isn't very flimsy. The blade edge wasn't all that sharp on the lower portion – roughly 1.5” from the handle. The sheath upon inspection, seemed well constructed and had a lot of wiggle room when inserting the knife. The “Edgekeeper” sharpening portion of the sheath seems to be fine, as far as I can tell, but I don't notice much sharpening action going on. There is a lot of play with that and I don't recommend using this section to sharpen your knife. I used it 20 times in a row to see if it would sharpen the lower portion of the knife and I noticed no difference. I find it to be too loose to help with keeping a proper sharp edge. Maybe I just got a lemon, I don't know. Other than that, this seems to be a decent knife and it does perform well. The grip is comfortable – even with my small hands. My summary, This is a good knife, but don't buy it for the “Edgekeeper” aspect. I strongly suggest that you do not “soak” this knife, or run it through a dishwasher. Hand wash it as the instructions mention.

Not up to par!

alabamabutterfly55 November 1, 2015

I was truly excited to hear about a paring knife that had its own sharpener within the sheath. However, the Farberware Edgekeeper 3.5" Parer with Self-Sharpening Sheath was a big disappointment. I used a tomato to demonstrate how sharp the knife was NOT. As you can see in my photos, I had to stab the tomato before I could get the knife to cut through the skin. The Farberware paring 3.5" knife is too light. I prefer a paring knife with a little more density and balance. I do like the idea of the sharpener within the sheath but I could not get this sharpener to sharpen the knife satisfactorily. My husband finally used one of his hand held sharpeners to get an edge on the knife. Once the Farberware Edgekeeper paring knife was sharpened properly, it did cut well. I have no idea how long it will keep its edge though. I think this knife would be a good starter knife for someone setting up housekeeping or for a novice cook. I will use it as a back up paring knife. I like to be prepared for anything when I am in the kitchen!
