I have been looking for an affordable option for a chopping knife for awhile now, and this Farberware knife seems to fit the bill. What sold me was the self-sharping blade- sleeve!
Low cost great knife cooking knife for food prep. . Blade is sharp and stays sharp with sharpening scabbared. Light weight. Santoku blade make it easy to pickup dice items to throw in pot or zip lock bag.
The self-sharpener is a great idea! For those of us who can’t stand dull knives, there’s no more hunting for a sharpener in the drawer – it’s built into the included sheath, and when the knife is pulled from or inserted into the sheath, the knife blade will automatically sharpen. The sheath protects the blade from nicks or damage when stored in the drawer. This is a quality Santoku knife, sort of a combination of a cleaver and a chef’s knife, and is a multi-purpose chopping, slicing and mincing knife; it chopped fruit, onions, celery and garlic quickly and effortlessly. Shallow indentations on both sides of the blade, just above the edge, keep cheese and other soft foods from sticking to the blade, which is sometimes an issue with thicker blades. The handle is ergonomically formed and fits well in my hand, although I would have preferred it to be a bit more substantial to balance the blade, which seems a little front-heavy. One caveat: as the blade is high-carbon steel, the packaging recommends that the knife be hand-washed and immediately dried, so it would not be considered dishwasher-safe; carbon steel knives need to be kept dry to avoid rust. However, because of the great performance of this knife, despite the slight extra care necessary, I would absolutely recommend it.
I was very pleased to receive this chopping knife from the Spark reviewer program. It is made of high-carbon steel, so should take a good edge and keep its good looks with reasonable care. It must be cleaned and dried after each use to keep it looking like new. If left wet with food acids, it may discolor. The self-sharpening sheath is a great idea for protecting the blade and keeping it always ready for use. Care should be used when inserting and withdrawing the knife from the sheath, to keep the fingers away from the sharp edge and be sure the blade rides against the sharpener with the right amount of pressure to effectively sharpen the blade. The handle feels good in the hand and the shape allows good clearance for my fingers so I don't smash my knuckles on the cutting board when cutting vegetables for stir-fry or omelets. I am pleased to now have 3 knives of this same line in my kitchen.
I am writing my honest review of the Farberware Edgekeeper 7 inch Santoku Knife with the self sharpening sleeve. I received the knife free from Walmart’s Spark Reviewer. I chop a lot of vegetables and have not been able to keep my other knife sharp enough; thus this is the knife for me!! The sleeve has a built in knife sharpener that sharpens when inserted; and again when the knife is pulled out. This is a fine piece of cutlery made of stainless steel that is very durable. It is also easy to clean after each use. I simply rub some liquid detergent over the part that touched the vegetables and rinse it with warm water, then dry it with a paper towel. It is then inserted back into the sleeve and is ready for the next use. The blade is sharp and cuts through the hardest vegetables easily. I am happy for that because I have arthritis in my hands and was having trouble with pain when cutting with my previous knife. Also the ergonomically designed handle facilitates the comfort in the use of knife. I cut through a head of cabbage, through the core, very easily. I chop up cabbage for my dogs so this is very helpful to be able to cut through the core because they eat that too. Up until getting this knife, I had to put my largest dog outside with the core. So now that it is cooler and has been raining here in Texas, I am glad for this knife! The Farberware Edgekeeper 7 inch Santoku Knife allows me to slice as thin as I want quickly. I have never been able to do that before. I always wondered how the professional cooks could do that, and now I realize that it is because they have a sharp knife that is made of high quality metal like this one that I am now using and reviewing. I also can chop the hardest cheeses very easily. This knife also cuts up uncooked meat very easily. It is so easy to cut up a whole chicken and that saves money because it cost more to buy a chicken that is already cut up. I like that it comes with a Life time limited warranty that states that if it is not free from defects in material and workmanship it will be repaired or replaced. I am thinking that this would be an excellent gift to buy anyone for Christmas. Well, maybe not for your significant other.
I love the fact that they came up with this idea of putting your knife away in a sharpening sheath! Throwing them in a drawer or even in a wood block, dulls your knives quickly. This ensures that your knife will be protected and ready to use next time around. I really was impressed the first time I used it to cut a London broil. It cut through the meat like butter. This is now my go to knife!
The Farberware Edgekeeper 7 is strong and self-sharpening. Hand wash with warm water and a mild detergent, rinse and dry immediately. The sheath also keeps the knife protected while in storage. The Farberware has a built in knife sharpener. This knife is an excellent way to have a sharp cutting tool at hand at all times. Every time the knife is inserted or removed the blade is sharpened. I like the idea of having a sheath for the blade. It works fine once you discover the right angle to insert the knife into the sheath. This is useful knife. its a good hefty blade well balanced. The model feel sturdy with a good grip. It is a sharp knife, no issues so far. It does take an edge very easily and the price is not bad either. This Farberware 7-inch Santoku knife with edgekeeper sheath is an ideal way to have a sharp cutting tool at hand at all times. Sheath has a built in knife sharpener that creates a sharp blade every time the knife is inserted or removed. The sheath also protects the knife while in storage. I am please with this Farberware knife. I recommend the Farberware Edgekeeper .
Faberware 7 inch Santoku Knife, with self sharpening sleeve, we really like this knife! The knife has an "edgekeeper", self sharpening sleeve. Every time you return the knife and remove the knife from it's sleeve, it sharpens the blade. The blades are high-carbon, stainless steel, for strength and durability. Ergonomically designed handle for comfort while cutting, lightweight, easy to handle. Perfect for slicing, mincing, and chopping foods. The knife is extremely sharp and because the handle is such an easy design to handle, it makes cutting meats and vegetables easy! I made a large pot of chicken noodle soup, it took noticeably less time for preparing the vegetables and meats. Hand-washing of the knife is recommended, and dry immediately following. There is also a limited life time warranty. Well, my husband has claimed dibs on this knife, so I will be buying some other sizes for me. This is a quality knife. I'm really glad we tried it.
Nice enough knife. I tried this one, and it's 7" Slicer cousin as well !!! (see review). This one is better than the slicer. BUT, like the slicer, the design is just a straight blade, No 'breathable' grooves. Just to be able to say I did, I tried slicing with this one, NO WAY !!! It IS a good chopper though!! The self sharpening sheath is nice, too. It's nice to have a sharp knife EVERY time, without needing a sandstone!! I don't know the retail price of this, but I don't believe I would spend too much on it.
This knife is not bad but it is little too heavy for me. I honestly didn't think there would be difference in the quality of knives but after using this it was obvious. The knife is sleek and sharp and of course the self sharpening sheath is a plus however I am disappointed in the quality. I've only used it for few days and it already has a discoloration. I have and used Henckels for 8 years and this has never happened. If your looking for a long term use, invest little more on a better quality brand. But if you don't cook much and don't want to spend too much money on a knife, then this knife is good enough.
