Have used before, good price. Works very well on ears for biting flys
I really like this product and have successfully used on many horses over the years. This lotion fly protection is easy to use and I use it regularly for the horses ears and face areas as it does not leave a greasy or sticky residue. It absorbs fast, while providing great protection and can be used on other areas and works well around cuts and scrapes.
I go through a number of bottles of this stuff every summer. One of my mares rubs herself raw trying to itch bug bites on her sternum and belly, so I smear a good coating of this down her midline every few days to help repel flies and midges. I also rub some on the bellies and in the ears on my other horses as well. Works great and the horses like when I apply it.
I purchased Repel-X because I was looking for something equine-safe to protect my horse's blaze and pink nose from the sun -- he is outdoors 24/7. I am very happy with the product -- it is a thick lotion with barely any smell, and it is working well!
My horse understandably doesn't like getting sprayed on his face, so I decided to give this lotion a try... At first I was surprised because it's quite thin and liquidy, but that actually works out really well for spreading it around and it doesn't leave a greasy, gunky buildup over time. Very happy with this product!
My horse ALWAYS seems to be the one who is in a stall next to a 'fly mask bandit'. EVERY time I go out to see him his fly mask in on the floor of the next stall. (I'm sure my horse is completely innocent of course :-) This lotion gives me a bit of added comfort that the fly's won't drive him crazy as soon as he gets his fly mask ripped off. I also use it before I ride and the fly's stop landing as soon as I put it on. It's not greasy. Overall a great product.
I tried this on the advice of my friend to keep the bugs out of my horses' ears - just to see if I could avoid using fly masks during the very hot, humid summer weather. My horses are field boarded 24/7, and the insides of their ears would get so crusty and sore from the bugs. Since I started using this just once a day, I have noticed a HUGE difference. All of the crustiness is completely gone and there are absolutely no signs of any bugs in or around their ears. I also use it in place of an ear bonnet when riding. It is absolutely not greasy and does not smell bad. This is a fantastic product and I recommend it to everyone.
I used this product for the first time in 2014 and was pleased with its effectiveness on my gelding who is extremely sensitive to insects. I used it on the areas recommended by the company and he didn't get any bug bites throughout the summer or fall! Very happy with the results.
I use this instead of fly masks in the hot weather here in FL. It stays on, works all day. You don't need to use much. You do have to be careful squeezing the bottle, it comes out fast.
I got this because I had been using fly spray applied to a grooming brush to put on my horse's head. I thought this might be more effective and easier. The labeling is contradictory. The description on SmartPak indicates that it's for spot treatment around the eyes, muzzle and ears; but, the small print on the bottle says don't get it anywhere near the eyes and be careful to not get too much near the ears. I put it on carefully, but didn't see any difference between this and fly spray on a brush. But, the next day, when I came out, every spot where I put this was covered in dust and mud and was hard to clean up. I have a flea-bitten grey horse so it may not bother someone on a darker horse. For me, I can't see any reason to use it when other options work as well and don't make a mess to clean up the next day.
