Works well when applied affectively. Be careful on sensitive thin skinned horses as if you put too much product in one concentrated spot it can cause irritation on the skin. But when applied as intended, works great!!
Have used this product for years, works well on my horses for deer ticks. We have tons of ticks here all year. They get covered with them, I put this on them, and they are tick free within 24-36 hours. It says it works for two weeks per dose, but I only have to use it one dose per month. It will definitely last all month. Easy to order here at Walmart, good price, fast shipping.
I have been using this for years on my horse. It definitely helps keep the ticks off of him. He is a very sensitive skinned thoroughbred and he doesn't have any reactions to it... other than his emotional reaction LOL he hates when I put it on I guess it feels itchy to him. He gets over it in about a half hour.
My TB has always been sensitive to insect bites. He'd be the only horse in the pasture covered in hives! Equi-spot really helps him. I apply it every 2 weeks as directed during the summer and it keeps him very comfortable.
I bought this product for extra protection against bugs for my horse who spends a majority of his time in the pasture during the summer months. I believe the product is worth purchasing because it provides extra protection for your pastured horse who isn't getting fly spray put on every day.
I have used this for several years now and especially appreciate how effective it is against ticks. I've found that in our area, applying it once every 4 to 6 weeks works great against ticks and helps with flies. One star off for applicator--it's not the best and difficult to accurately apply recommended amounts. A good workaround is to empty the applicator into a small vial and use a 12 cc syringe to apply to the horse--no drips, no runs, no errors!
It is always a fight to put this on my horse but I know it works so I do it! He hates the smell and how it trickles so I do it right before taking him back out to pasture. One thing that does not make sense about this product is they tell you percentages to put on different parts of the horse's body but I have no idea how you could possibly figure it out while you are trying to get this on a moving horse. It would be better if there were lines on the outside of the product showing how much should be emptied on each part.
I used this on 3 of my horses and 2 were fine. The third one is a 6 year old, fit Gypsy Vanner. After I applied the Equi-Spot I continued to groom her and within 15 minutes she began getting very agitated, biting and kicking at herself and scrubbing her head on the fence until it bled. It took me a minute to realize it was exactly where I had applied the Equi-Spot. I had to bathe her twice before she stopped. She was so out of her mind I thought she might inadvertently injure me as I worked to get it off but I escaped unscathed. The other 2 horses showed none of these signs at all other than rolling. 24 hours later there are no flies on them! If you haven't used this on your horse before I would apply it to one spot where it would be easy to wash off and wait 15 minutes before applying the rest. I did pour it into a syringe to make it easier to apply.
I bought this product to apply on my APHA mare. As soon as I put a few drops on her cannon bone, she started pawing, biting at her leg, and rubbing it with her head. Her complete disposition changed. I would not recommend this product and rather my horse have flies than use this product!
A friend at my barn bought 3, used 2 about 3 weeks apart on her horse with no reaction so I used it on Cort. He had welts all over his body where I dotted it and at 7 spots on his body he was raw from this product. In addition his front legs had raw weeping sores 48 hours after the product was applied. Used Vetericyn and Wonder Dust for about a week before all areas were on the mend. Will not be using this product again.
