Mosquito Halt is one of the few formulations that seems to still have an affect on the bugs here in Florida. Mosquito Halt becomes a staple in our barn from Spring to Fall, and sometimes even into winter depending on the type of winter we're having. Also helps with the pesky no-see-ums that tend to plague sensitive horses.
If you've done horse stuff for any amount of time you know there are 'seasons' where nothing seems to work. I'm from Nebraska. 2 years ago, went to a show in Wisconson and equine eating critters of unknown entymology were sending my thin skinned fainting goat diva OTTB out of his walnut-sized brain [brave eventer - HA!]. Wisconsin-ites scoffed at my chosen fly control and said, 'we have real bug problems up here, and THIS [Mosquito-Halt] is what we use'. I bought 2 from the show vendor and here I am 2 years later still using it. That being said,....folks get real about fly spray. I see people applying it like perfume before going to the opera!. We had the 'bomb cyclone' in March and the whole state remains a large puddle and a mosquito & fly breeding ground. July & August in 'normal years', I find myself using 2 fly spray products regularly- AT THE SAME TIME!! Usually and herbal and a chemical. They BOTH get applied just after grooming and then again right before I get on. That is FOUR LAYERS of fly spray folks. That ABOUT does the job. I have yet to meet ANY fly spray, applied by itself once right before a ride, especially on the trails wher mosquitos are thick, that keeps my thin skinned fainting goat diva OTTB 'Sir Braveheart' Eventer from going nutso. MosquitoHalt has been doing the job for me [maybe because everyone else is using other stuff and the bugs are getting used to that and not to the MosquitoHalt]. I use MosquitoHalt + an herbal spray - 4 coats for trail rides and lessons outdoors. 2 coats for lessons indoors where the bugs are less intense. [the herbal would never control things on it's own, BTW]. Just my experience but I neede to do the same with my calm stoic Dutch boy too.
This year is legendary for mosquitoes - before buying this product, mosquito attacks ended many a ride (even tho I sprayed horse with DEET). It doesn't last as long as the bottle says, but at least it stays on for much longer than other products and, best of all, it actually works!
Mosquito Halt is my "go- to" fly spray because it really works!! I spray my horses and see an immediate difference. They go from stomping and swishing to standing calmly!
I purchase this bug spray every time I order my supplements. I have found it to work the best thus far. Funny thing say about bug spray but I think my horse likes the way it smells!
So, I'm in Michigan and the humidity is over 9000 most days in the summertime. That means mosquitoes come out to play as early as possible in the spring and will refuse to leave until sometime around Christmas. It's always hard to find a spray that will work, especially if you're like me and want to ride at night after the sun goes down so you don't die from heat stroke. This spray does the trick! No mosquitoes all night! Here's the kicker: No dice with flies. It advertises to work on flies, but I will tell you, they are not phased around here. Sure, my mare gets relief DURING the spray process, but once I'm done, the flies come right on back. This is fine if I'm going to ride after the sun goes down - no flies at that time - but when I want to ride around dusk, they're still a problem. I've been combining this with fly sprays (look for my review of the new OutSmart spray by SmartPak) to get the full effect, but that's costly and annoying to my mare. Other downsides: The smell is strong with this one. My mare acts like she's been a current everyday smoker when I spray her with this stuff and it really feels like I have pneumonia if I breathe it in. Wear a mask or hold your breath. Still, it's worth it to keep those 'quitoes away.
My horse has a lot of problems with bugs. This product has done very well to keep the bugs and mosquitos off of him. He's now a lot happier. The other big sprays just didn't work as well with the bugs that we get in Louisiana. On a side note, I will say that one of my friends had an allergic reaction to it.
Mosquitoes are really bad this year, making trail riding a misery. This product actually does repel mosquitoes. Sadly it does not last very long after application, but better than other horse products I have tried.
I like using this spray at the end of the season because it works well on resistant bugs. However I recommend you apply it outside as breathing any is not a good idea. It smells and tastes like the poison it is.
Absolutely love Mosquito Halt! The best fly spray out there. However my experiance with the shipping was sub par. The package came with the lid taped, wrapped in bubble wrap, in a plastic bag in a cardboard box. It was not enough. The product had spilled and I lost about an 8th of it, at almost $80 total that was probably about a $10 loss. Fighting with the shipper over this just isn't worth it. Will not order online again.
