Best price I could find on the Internet and shipped quickly to my local WALMART store. Easy to follow assembly instructions. Very well made, no tuning adjustments needed, minimum tools required, and assembly time less than 15-minutes. If you need a sturdy, inexpensive, great performing, 2m/70cm, home base Amateur Radio antenna, this is it!
The specs on this antenna are excellent. Measured VSWRs are low across the U/V HAM bands. Even works on GMRS, MURS, & marine bands - although with slightly higher VSWR. Assembly was not a problem, just took my time. Read the instructions. The top half radiating element must be connected to the bottom half. Genitally & slightly pull top element out of top fiberglass shell to expose the coupling and fasten to bottom element. Using the supplied parts , just place top and bottom fiberglass shells together, attached radials and you're done. Mounting hardware is solid. No issues. Able to reach 9 repeaters where previously could only get 4 or 5. Reports back of signal quality are excellent. This antenna even beats my old UHF yagi in non-line-of-site communications. After grounding the base, am good to go. Shipped to Walmart Neighborhood Market for local pickup. Highly recommended, good value for the money.
Bought this antenna on recommendation from a fellow amateur radio operator. Prices are higher from other vendors and with a little gift for my wife, the antenna was delivered free to my door! Easy to put together and install on site, just be sure to slide out top inner radiator so it can be fastened to the lower element, easy to do. I installed this in January with two feet of snow on the ground and temps were in the mid 20s! Great signal reports on two meter simplex and hitting far out repeaters up to 50 miles! 440 is very good with even better reports on simplex. For the money, this is a winner! 73 Rod KB8DNS
Very well built antenna. Really like it.
I have used many types of dual band verticals from many manufacturers and see some differences that may concern some folks, but this antenna does the job for a low cost home dual band antenna. When folks tell you about the SWR of their installation, they are mostly relating the quality of the coax used and other considerations, but I did see some resonance concerns on some of the Tram 1480's I ordered. I have no concern about touching up such adjustments, but some may have trouble doing this. All of the five I ordered were usable as designed and out of the box, connected and put in the air. One measured an SWR of 2 at the bottom of the band, which is still acceptable. I see no reason to add tape over a tight fitting joint, but I did use a silicone sealer-grease in my case, but silicone sealer would be fine for permanent locations. Be aware of the drip gap at the bottom of the antenna and don't block it.
Sturdy construction and easy to install.
Good antenna ,tuned up 147.420 mhz 1.5 swr.
The only thing that keeps me from rating this as a 5 star is the minimalist assembly instructions and one radial hole that needed a bit of thread re-tapping. Once assembled (easy) this antenna immediately gave me vastly better reception and transmission quality when compared to a J-pole and a home brew Ed Fong design. Given the nearest competitors (Diamond and Comet) are 2-4 times the price this is definitely a choice I would recommend.
well made , excellent hardware but poor on UHF band. Work well on VHF band , low SWR But on UHF poor SWR. Need to be investigate Not bad for the price but need improvement on the UHF band. Maybe used as strarting diy UHF colinear antenna project
A few days after receiving the antenna, I assembled and mounted it to a mast on my roof. I attached the coax and then connected an swr meter and radio and gave it a test. I began with 2 meters and got satisfactory results. I then tried 70 cm and got horrible results. I looked at some reviews on the product and saw they ran the gamut from great to hate. There were some suggestions as to possible assembly error, so I tried disassembling and reassembly.....twice.....with the same results. I was able to locate very good swr at 445.000 Mhz, but when attempting to transmit to three repeaters in my area, the swr was terrible. As long as you stick close to 445 MHz you'd be in good shape, but its no good for repeaters here. I may have gotten a dud. I do hope this isn't standard quality for this antenna.
