I have a small dog who has to bark at everything to show how tough he is. Using the bark genie has work excellent for my dog. He is told no barks and if he barks I activate the genie and he stops. Now if I am holding it he know not to bark and if he tests me I will push the button.
I have multiple dogs and I started having a trouble with pack "alert" barking. When one would hear something outside, they would start barking, which in turn would set off the others. Then we would spend the next 5 minutes not able to hear ourselves think over all the barking. Do NOT use this when just trying to correct one dog if you have more than one, because it punishes them all, only use it to correct the behavior of them all... or one if you only have one. When they start their pack barking I just step into the doorway to the living room and push the button. I hear a small sound for just a split second then it goes silent, but only silent to me. All the dogs shut up and instantly come to me. This has been a life saver. You do have to be within relatively close range to work this. Don't expect to be on one end of the house and the dogs on the other and have this work. You need to be within about 12 feet of them. But if done properly, and not over-used, this will work for you too.
My mom bought one of these for her little dog who constantly barks at everything under the sun; attention, treats, the other dogs, people, etc. She pressed the button and it made her dog stop barking and lay down. It also worked on her other dog who will quickly leave the room when the button is pressed. I was so impressed with how well it worked and I talked about getting one so my Mom decided to get me one as for my dogs. I have to say it works on all but one dog (I have 4). When you press the button you can hear a small beep to let you know it is working but the sonic sound only the dogs can hear. They all will stop barking and run to hide. I'm sure it hurts their ears so I try to only use it when they bark constantly and won't stop. Dixie (the one it doesn't work on) is pretty stubborn but she does acknowledge that it makes a sound because she will look up at it when I press the button but goes right back to barking. If it doesn't work for you it is possible the batteries are weak or your dog may need to have their ears checked. This has been used on 8 different dogs (my 4, moms 3, and my sisters dog) and works on all but one.
Because I have my own business, I take my dogs to the office with me daily. Unfortunately the front windows are all glass. And they love to sit and look out the windows. The barking was getting out of control. This little gem had my 3 Chihuahuas, aged 2 and 8, trained in less than 2 weeks. No more barking at everybody that walked by. No more barking at the cat across the street. Unbelievable results!
This device worked instantly to subdue the furious barking at auto and foot traffic. We live at the top of a hill with a quarter mile view to a very busy road below. Our two dogs, a tiny six year old female and a medium size five year old male see EVRYTHING, and go LOUD. One squeeze of the Bark Genie and they were quiet and came to me immediately. Don't know if this is a forever fix, but it's great so far!
We have an awesome dog - that means a lot coming from me, because I am NOT a "dog person". She's about 4 years old, she does the usual tricks: sit, roll over, paw, speak. She also fetches beer cans and says "please" which is actually "speak" but quieter :-) Here's the problem - she thinks EVERYONE just LOVES her and wants to be her best friend. So she barks and jumps. She is also VERY attached to us, and has to be near us at ALL TIMES -- or she barks.. incessantly! Again, i'm not a "dog person" so this is an issue for me. I find it rude and irritating. My sister IS a "dog person" and has two dogs that used to be barkers. Until she found this gadget (which is why I also purchased this gadget). Here's the nutshell: For $20, plus about $10 in AAA batteries (it needs 4 of them), this wonderful gadgets emits a supersonic beep of the variety only a dog can hear. That little beep STOPS our dog dead in her tracks. We've been "training" with it and a command for about 2 weeks, and we're already nearing the point where we only need the command, and not the beep. Dog jumps - "Down!" and beep - dogs stops and sits. Dog barks - "No!" and beep - dogs stops and sits. Dog (off leash) wanders toward street, people walking by, other dogs - "Right Here!" and beep - dogs stops, turns, and comes to you and sits at your side. As much as I'm not a dog person, I had a hard time considering using something like a "shock" collar for training/correcting her behavior. Plus the cost involved - they are not "cheap". This is a PERFECT solution - affordable, humane, EFFECTIVE!
This works! My two Havenese dogs bark at anything outside that they cannot see, and everyone that enters the house. With this in my hand I just need to tell them to stop and hit the button. After just a few times they see the Bark Genie in my hand and when I tell them to stop they stop!!! I don't even have to push the button anymore. It has not stopped them from barking at things outside the house, but when I tell them it's OK and to stop they do. If you have any doubts, DON'T. It is a great investment in training your dog.
It works great as a deterrent for barking or excitable response from dog. But, if dog very excitable at the moment they might ignore you anyway. But nice for usual behavior issues.
Our delightful little dog felt that he MUST warn us when a stranger appears. This sub-sonic device has taught him very quickly that we don't want to know.
We bought this item on the recommendation of another customer. So far it works very well in controlling unnecessary barking. Other similar products are much more expensive.
