Great product and even better price and service. Compared with other sellers and Walmart had the best price; what surprised was how fast it came. Did not expect a Fed X delivery.
Good price. Fast delivery.
Well worth buying the model with a ten year battery. Beats waking up a 2AM with a one year low battery model chirping
The firemen at my house said First Alert were the best he has them in his house as I have so many the price is right
Just purchase these and put them up, really can't give them a review because haven't had them long enough to determine that.
Exactly what we wanted and easy to swap out. Problem was old date of manufacture, therefore have to replace sooner. Date was 2024, at least should be late 2025.
I bought this to replace one exactly like it which had a battery life of only 5 years before the unit failed. This one was already 2 years old when received, rather than being a newly manufactured unit. Aside from the original that was installed in my house in 1997, I have yet to get more than 6 years from any of the replacements. What I received was a BRK brand, a wholesale/builder/construction brand, rather than the First Alert homeowner brand. It was advertised as First Alert, not BRK.
box was delivered to wrong address with a photo on the wrong porch. had to reorder. Some consideration from W helped.
I purchased the First Alert SMI105-AC thinking I was getting a smoke alarm with a 10-year lifespan. What I didn't realize—and only found out the hard way—is that the 10-year countdown starts from the date of manufacture, not from when you buy or install it. And when you buy online, there's no way to check the manufacturing date beforehand. The units I received had already lost 2 full years, leaving me with only 8 years of actual use. I would understand a few months difference—but 2 years is too much, and that's why I contacted First Alert, expecting them to make good on their product. Unfortunately, their customer service was frustrating and unhelpful. They kept going back and forth with irrelevant questions that had nothing to do with the issue. It honestly felt like a tactic to wear me down until I gave up—which I eventually did. They clearly don't stand behind their product. I think nobody wants to get stuck with a product that's already past its sell-by date—but that's exactly what happens when you order one of these without knowing how old it already is. To be clear: the unit doesn't beep prematurely—it starts beeping exactly at the 10-year mark. But when it does, the beeping is constant, and removing it from the ceiling doesn't stop it, because the sealed battery keeps going. You literally have to throw it away. Most people don't have a new detector ready to go that day—especially now with the 10-year limit laws. I'd rather have a reliable older smoke detector that may be a few months past the 10-year mark, giving me time to get to a store and research my options, than be without one entirely because a “smart” system forced me to toss it. This might seem like a good idea in a boardroom, but in the real world it's frustrating, wasteful, and potentially unsafe. Between the shortened usable lifespan, forced disposal, and lack of support, I can't recommend this product. Fortunately, I bought these units from Walmart.com. They accepted the return and will be sending the units back to First Alert. At least someone stood behind the transaction.
