Such a great set! Our kids loved expanding their Thomas sets with this expansion pack! Love physical building toys like this to expand their imagination and creativity. If you currently own any of the Thomas the Train sets, this expansion set is a MUST! I have 4 kids and we started collecting Thomas sets when my first was born and he's now 25! We still have all the sets from when he was a kid and not only did he play with them, but so have all his sisters! My two youngest (3 and 5) received this set and they were able to incorporate it right away with their older Thomas sets. I enjoy watching them problem solve (how to make the tracks in the shapes they like and have them match up) and play creatively. They loved having the extra pieces to create more tracks for Thomas and his friends to travel on. They set it up and made a little town. Each time they would play with the new pieces they would set it up a little differently each time. There's so many possibilities with 20 extra pieces to play with! I also want to add that the quality of these pieces is just amazing! All the Thomas the Tank brand items that we've had over the years truly have been what I would call heirloom quality pieces. As soon as my little guy saw the box, he couldn't hold back his excitement! This pack comes with a lot of different pieces for lots of fun, and some pieces that will connect to other types of train sets. This was very nice because we were able to use the train sets that we already have, and made an even BIGGER train track! All the pieces fit together seamlessly, and maneuver very well. Being a parent to 4 year old boy/girl twins can make finding toys that interest both of them challenging! This Fisher-Price® Thomas & Friends™ Wood Expansion Track Pack definitely holds both of their interests. The strong wooden tracks are made of quality material because they have taken a beating these last few days and are still going strong! The 4 plastic direction changers keep the building process fresh and new every time, with so many options to create. The only issue my kids had with this building set is when they tried to include train tracks from another toy company that doesn't have compatible connections. Yes, Fisher-Price® Thomas & Friends™ Wood Expansion Track Pack did awesome with including 2 adaptors for playing with other brands of wooden tracks, but there is only 1 for transitioning to the other sets and 1 for transitioning back. This limited the option for how many different directions the kids could build in, especially since the 4 direction changers in this set are so fun to use. As frustrating as it was in the beginning, it didn't stop them from playing with the expansion pack and including it into their regular builds. Would still highly recommend, whether you have other Fisher-Price® Thomas & Friends™ Wood Sets, or even a competitors set. Tons of fun and endless building options to explore! I'm very happy overall with this expansion track. This is my first experience with the new type of connectors. My older wooden Thomas tracks just have the straight piece with the circle on the end. What I like: I do like the new connection system, is easy enough for my toddler to put together, and I feel like it's a stronger connection that with break less and stay in place better than the older style. I also like that connector pieces are included for the track to connect to the older wooden type style track Cons: I wish that the track was double sided like a lot of the older style tracks. I also wish it came with more connection pieces to connect to the old style wooden tracks. It confuses my three year old and I will probably have to separate the two track styles until he learns the difference. Overall I would definitely recommend this track expansion especially if your starting out and only have the new type connectors. Just be aware the end fittings are not the same as the old style if you have a lot of older Thomas the train tracks. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I actually bought two of these to go with our Figure 8 set because I wanted my son to have enough to build with. We only have track with the new connectors and I wouldn't recommend using this with the older or other brand track, it would be awkward even with the adaptors. This had plenty of track and we can build all kinds of layouts, one probably would have been enough but I found a great deal. I mostly like the new connectors. This list points for two reasons, one the price. I got it from Amazon and did not pay anything near retail. I'm not sure I would have got it at that price. The second star I took off was because the turnout pieces are plastic. I assume this is to build in the switch mechanism, but I'd much prefer they be the simpler wood turnout with no mechanism. They'd be simpler to play with, look nicer, and it would mean overall your track is mostly wood.

Upon receiving this expansion set, I was new to the Thomas and Friends tracks. My children have several other brands of wooden train tracks and accessories and I thought this would be a great fun addition. The quality of the wood is there but my one complaint is the track itself. The wooden track does not fit other brands, only two plastic small pieces do that can be added to create a full track of various brands. I realize this was probably done on purpose to get customers to buy their particular brand, but it is hard to explain to a 3 year old why the track pieces don't all fit together. This would a be a nice gift that is quality built to last. I would still recommend this set to others, just with the knowledge it isn't universal for other brands to make large train sets and cities.
