First off, I believe the one star review is very unfair. Yes, the cover is a little hard for one person to get on, the hardware is screwed and not riveted, but it's not a deal breaker. I would like to review the performance of the product, which I believe is most important. The panels are heavy duty, as well is the stand. The only negative I can see is the included charge controller is pretty low end, so I am using a MPPT controller for best efficiency. In direct sunlight they were putting out 19v and close to 10 amps so I'm pleased with those results. I will be ordering another unit to parallel together to complete my set up to 400 watts. Overall even with the low end controller, at the price Sam's is selling this for it is a good value.
Received the panels quickly with plus member free shipping and in good condition. Was surprised by the weight of them. I can't decide if that makes me happy, suggesting a robust build or unhappy because of the effort it takes to utilize them. As mentioned in other reviews, the controller is a budget PWM controller. That said, I have powered a 155watt load out of the back side of the controller. That is an excellent result for a very affordable suitcase with a dollar store controller. For the price, the suitcase is an excellent value for the current market. I did consider the Renogy, which also comes with a PWM controller, (as well as many others) as suggested by another reviewer. I did not find the extra $90 (now) difference in price to be 30%(cost difference) better than this. Having received and am now using this panel, I am happy with my decision. One thing I don't like is the limited zipper on the carry case that, combined with the weight, does make it difficult to remove and replace.
I have the Renogy suitcase solar. My dad borrowed it and liked it so he asked me to watch for a deal on one. I bought this one for him because it was $70 cheaper and looked just as good. It arrived today, boxes(double boxed) undamaged but the latches that hold the 2 halves were broken. I figured I'd just order a replacement. so I pulled it out of the box to look it all over. Has a nylon handle screwed to the frame(Renogy has a metal handle riveted to frame. You could run a cable lock through it to secure it a little from theft). Second thing I noticed is cover only unzips about a 1/4 of the way on each side(Renogy unzips all the way down so cover splits into 2 halves. Much easier to get out and put away with Renogy case). Last thing was legs are much nicer to use on the Renogy also. Wanted to like this solar suitcase, but at the end of the day, even with good latches, I would still buy a Renogy over this one
