I use this meter quite often as I'm troubleshooting various controls in factories internationally. I love this meter. I used to hate troubleshooting 4-20MA signals. Now it is anxiety free and fast. I forgot it today in the hotel and of course I needed it. What a crappy feeling to not have my favorite tool. Thank goodness it was Sunday so it can wait till tomorrow.
I've been using this meter for process control at multiple water plants and it has saved a lot of time in troubleshooting issues from new wiring to suspected bad instruments or faulty analog PLC modules. Not having to take the time to pull a wire and hook a meter in series or even the mental calculations to convert 1-5v with a 250ohm resistor to current is great. We had a problem with the plastic clamp shortly after buying it. The hinge broke but Fluke was quick to provide a replacement instrument. Being able to quickly supply current to a loop has also been invaluable. Productivity is the name of the game and this unit helps us get things up and running faster. It has indeed paid for itself.
The great feature about this meter is that you can measure a mA signal without breaking the circuit. It is also very useful troubleshooting mA output signals. It's been a great aide and time saver in instrument commissioning. It makes it very easy to simulate analog inputs prior to instrument installation. I would recommend this product to anyone that has several 4 -20 mA instruments to maintain.
We got this meter for our agriculture equipment that has 4-20mA sensors on it and it works great to trouble shoot and diagnose the machine.
I purchased this meter to check milliamp outputs for process control systems. This meter works great for a not-contact meter. It is nice to be able to trouble shoot if the signal is making it to my control device without having to break into the circuit. Only thing preventing a five start rating is the price.
i bought this meter in the $700 range. the only awesome feature is that you can measure a mA signal without breaking the circuit. other than that, i would not recommend this product. what i find particularly disappointing is that you cannot fully troubleshoot a mA circuit with this tool. without being able to read voltage with this tool, you are not able to tell whether you have an open circuit or no power. i am troubled by the fact that you need to buy the top-of-the-line meter to fully troubleshoot a mA circuit.
