[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Ive had this multimeter for a few weeks and its my most favorite tool in my tool box. This meter is by far one of the highest quality meters on the market. Its packed with features and feels really sturdy. This was money well spent cant wait to use this for years to come.
It's just the Fluke 88V automotive meter and one set of TL-175 Twistguard test leads. It is NOT what is pictured with all the other probes and accessories. It's still a great deal for this meter!
Purchased my fluke a year ago or so after constantly having errors in readings on my other automotive tool brand meter. A false reading can really screw you up when diagnosing critical voltage systems in the automotive industry. I love the trust I have with this meter. The illuminated screen helps in tight spots.
I have been an auto mechanic for the last 25 years. My last Fluke 88 had finally been acting up to the point that it was annoying. I called them and read off my serial number and the rep told me it was purchased in 1990 and that parts for this meter are no longer avail. I never even hesitated to buy a new one. 22 yrs old! Think about that........used in one of the harshest enviroments, humidity, heat, cold, snow, etc and it lasted 22yrs. Kudos to Fluke! What a product!
I received the 88V for Christmas and it was a gift for my participation in an automotive repair internship. Using the meter for a few tasks really showed me the many scientific features– for example the water temperature of the swimming pool was taken to compare the results with a weather service. Verifying good electrical grounds on vehicle components, and checking the resistance of installed automotive wiring makes diagnosing and installing more accurate. Protecting the meter seems easy with the yellow bumper case. There are many accessories that can be used like the temperature reading probes, direct current reading meter clamp, alligator clamp probes, thin-wire precision probes and probes that can be inserted into the wire by needling the probe-needle through the wires conduit. Personally, the meter has been used only a few times but it has performed very well. The jobs that the meter was used for are okay. The display is large and easy to read.
I am a truck tecnician and my primary responsibilities are diagnostics. As a professional I need a meter that is both reliable and durable. The Fluke 88V meets both of those requirements. I have worked in the industry for 40 years and have used several other name brand equipment but none compare with my Fluke. The meter is also very versitile, it not only performs basic tests, it also will read Hertz, temperature and pressure and vacuum readings. I would highly reccommend this meter to anyone in the automotive industry that needs an excellent diagnostic tool.
This is the best multimeter that I have ever used. I have been in the automotive industry for 25 years. I have worked everywhere from independent service shops to dealerships to automotive manufacturers. I have used many different types of DMMs none can compare with the fluke 88. It is easy to use, nice large read out. Perfect for all automotive test. I have owned this one for 20 years
I have several other multimeters that use in different locations. I keep the Fluke at my main job where I diagnose cars electrical and computer problems. I have an Actron and a Blue Point one at home and a Radio Shack one at my part time job where I also diagnose electrical and computer issues. The Fluke is easily the highest quality meter and you can feel the difference just by turning it on. It has all the features I need plus a couple of nice features like back lighting. My Blue Point meter may actually be made by Fluke for them but is not the same quality as the original Fluke. The accessories that come with it will get you started and you can add on from there. I use my Fluke meter everyday and it performs flawlessly every time. The speed is much better than the other meters by far which goes a long way when you are testing a ECM connection for different voltages or resistances.
My first Fluke 88 lasted 30 years with 3 display replacements. Have had my new 88 for a year now, just as excellent. The speed of auto-ranging is what makes this meter stand out. Super accurate, reliable, and a good backlight. I do wish Fluke would use industry standard internal fuses for the amp circuits, Fluke brand fuses are a bit pricey. You learn to pay attention to what you're probing in amp mode. Still would recommend to every auto tech.
The item described vs the item I got was two different. I didnt received leads, case, inductive and heat probed, needles, etc. I have just received just the DVOM with two leads in a carton box. I have sent 3 emails and so far no response. It was described, pictured and advertised as deluxe but I have received just the cut down version for a full price.
