I hadn't bought a bookshelf in quite some time. I hadn't realized how cheaply made bookshelves had become. Even far more expensive bookshelves are being made with cheaper partical board and MDF. My oldest daughter, a third year medical student,needed a new bookshelf, and I spent the better part of three weeks looking for an affordable bookshelf. Build quality, looks, ease of build, price, and available warranties were all factors. This one ended up making the grade. I am disabled and my wife isn't handy with tools, but even so, this wasn't hard to put together or securing to a stud in the wall for tip over security. The looks of this specific black and dark wood grain model fits well in hed room. The domed top looks far better than your typical square topped bookshelves. After over two months, if she hasn't destroyed it yet, I know it will last. I am a tiny bit surprised that I was able to find a bookshelf this cheap that could withstand her initial abuse of slamming her books into it the first week. Now mind you, this isn't a solid wood piece that will become a cherished antique or something you'll find in a rich person's house, but it works great for a college student's bedroom.
