as someone that has welded (farm equiptment/offroad custom fab) professionally for over 10 years with unknown miles of wire out of Miller welders I am highly impressed. beads wet in nicely with .030 wire and CO2. i have used it for many different thicknesses of metal on my rock crawler a little pre heat helps on the thicker stuff but overall i am very happy. honestly I had never heard of Forney welders before but upon some research found they were the first to make a welder that worked with the smaller rural transformers found in homes in the 1930s making welding more available for home and farm use with their specialized "limited input" machine. makes sense why its such a good machine for the home fabricator. I highly recommend this brand.
This thing can do everything I need it to, it is so easy to take to my projects, and its easy for anyone to learn with. I was Stick welding to fix a trampoline that my nephew broke this past week. This unit is so versatile that when he started getting interested, I was able to slap the MIG torch on, load in some flux-core wire and he got to spend a few hours learning a new hobby.
Very capable welder. I'm a hobbyist and wanted a MP welder for the garage. Had prior experience with MIG but wanted to teach myself Flux Core and TIG. So far I've used this for Flux Core and TIG (I purchased the TIG Torch separately) and it's a great little welder and produces great results. Make sure you focus on the fundamentals of welding, do your prep work, make sure your material is clean and take the time to set up your machine, do some practice runs and this little welder will give you great results. I also emailed Forney with some technical questions and they were helpful. Included is a picture of one of my first TIG welds which I know is not up to professional welding standards but for a first pass as a self taught hobbyist I'm happy.
I bought this to fix a broken mount on my mower deck, which I did last weekend. I have never MIG welded, so I purchased some bar stock the same gauge as the mower deck. After a few minutes of practice on the bar stock, I was making great welds. I would recommend this unit to anyone looking to get into welding.
I was truly surprised to see this welder. It is so much more than I imagined. I had welded before, both tig and mig, but always in a factory setting. This makes it possible to weld at home, or anywhere you choose, because it is portable. I used this along with my son in law. We welded panels together for his new shed. It turned out great and made the shed sturdier in the end. Instructions were spelled out in the book that comes with welder. No problems hooking it up or using it. Excellent piece of equipment! I would recommend this welder to anyone.
Have used this for all most a year. _x000D_ 1/8 6011 is a little heavy to run, 3/16 runs great. _x000D_ The bolts that hold the MiG spool were just a touch long and interfered with smooth operation. Put a thin washer on and it runs smooth as can be.
Not happy with it!!! You have to buy other parts to make it a MIG welder and TIG welder. This unit is just a stick welder and flux welder.
