the taste is sourdough, but not strong. The bread is usually cut thin. ( I prefer ) and is smooth when not toasted, and hasna perfect crunch when toasted. Sourdough is said to be different than regular white breas, a bit better for you. its a bit more money, but i think its worth it.
This is the best tasting sourdough sliced bread on the shelf. I've tried other brands but none can compare to the taste of Francisco Extra Sourdough Sliced Bread. Actually just about everything Francisco bakes is delicious but if you want authentic tasting sourdough sliced bread this is for you without a doubt.
Maybe it's me but this doesn't seem to have much flavor like I expect from sourdough, especially Extra sourdough. That is speaking of all of the last three loaves I've bought. Plus, the last loaf I bought (Not at Walmart) had mold on it when I got it home, so I think I'll be looking for a different brand now.
The quality of this bread seems to have diminished over the past year or so. I don't know if they changed the recipe, or what.....but it's just not as good as it used to be. Doesn't have very much of a "sour"dough taste any more, but I still prefer it over plain, white bread.
Dense as sheetrock, not quite as heavY. I haven't had decent sourdough since I move to Oregon 16 years ago! I've tried them all. I don't drive because of poor eyesight, so can't get to a bakery, so I've tried every commercial sourdough that Walmart carries. Thery're all from fake but edible (uses vinegar instead of sourdough!) to absolutely awful. I will not buy this one again.
I'm saddened! Not the same bread as it used to be, not extra sourdough, doesn't have the same taste and they've added some kind of preservative, I had a partial loaf for over a month and it never molded. You might think that's a good thing but it's not! It's just not the same, I won't be buying any more!
The new “sour dough” bread is not like original. Texture is like quick rise white bread. Taste is as if sour was added via a bit of vinegar and sugar. Real sour dough takes about 12 hours minimum rising time and the natural yeast transforms the bread, adding a cultured flavor too. This new sour dough tastes like quick rise bread. It probably saves a company much money to bake more quickly. But it is not genuine sour dough.
I usually buy another name brand Sourdough that is a round(?) so not uniform sized slices. I was going to make sandwiches so decided to try this brand, with uniform shaped slices. I like Sourdough and "Extra" Sourdough sounded even better! It failed. It didn't taste like Sourdough, so not "Extra" Sourdough flavor. I would've given 3 stars if it just tasted like a good quality white bread, because of being a name brand and the price. Failed again. It tastes like a cheap store brand of spongey "bread" that is full of ingredients you don't want. Not the texture or taste of Sourdough. Years ago I bought this brand and it was something you looked forward to enjoying. Not anymore. I'll go back to buying the other name brand.
No smell or taste of sourdough at all! Says Extra sourdough, so I was very disappointed. Also, too big for normal toasters. Mine is a little bigger than most, and i still can only toast one slice at a time as it must be cut in half to fit. If all you want is regular-tasting bread, then you'll probably love this bread; but if you want sourdough that actually tastes like sourdough, then don't buy this bread.
What I received was terrible. The shoppers are normally particular about what they choose for Walmart but not this time. The bread package was opened and looked as if a couple of slices had been removed. The bread was very heavy and light in color. It obviously wasn't fresh or baked well.
