My Mare's Favorite Supplement

SmartPaker Shaune August 14, 2025

I just started giving SUCCEED to my mare, and I have never found a supplement that she loves more. She absolutely loves the taste, which makes feeding it an absolute breeze. She will actually come running to the gate for her SUCCEED tube in the morning. I feel good knowing that I am providing something that will help support her digestive system, especially during our busy show season and all the changes that come with that. She's noticeably much more settled over a show weekend, so I highly recommend this to any competitive teams or even just those more nervous horses.

No comparison!

DublinDuty August 26, 2013

I have been using Succeed on two of my horses for 3 months now. My OTTB gelding had gastric and hindgut ulcers. My Holsteiner mare is just young, a bit spoiled, and reacts very negatively to stress. I'm completely amazed and pleased with how it has helped both horses. My gelding is finally showing signs of healing and consistently good digestion, which are making him far more comfortable and his overall physical conditioning are much improved! He now has a nice coat and is much more playful in the paddock. He also enjoys his workouts more and we are able to go on much longer hacks. It's such a relief to see him happy, healthy and comfortable. My young mare is much more attentive in her training--no more drama! I do still give a.m. and p.m. doses (full doses), but my issues were significant and my hay provider is very inconsistent. But neither horse has wet "nervous" manure anymore--not even when I trailer them out to new places to ride. That's a miracle for these two! Since Succeed and SmartDigest Ultra have similar ingredients, I did recently try to switch to SDU for the p.m. feeding (to save some money), but noticed the difference within two days. So although Succeed is pricy, for me it means being able to have happy/healthy horses, enjoyable workouts and rides, and winning performances--without having to go the omeprazole route (which would be significantly more expensive and tricky to use compared to Succeed). (I must say, however, SmartDigest Ultra is excellent for my other horses, who don't have quite the stress issues.)

seems to be safe for Cushings

Equinealt February 6, 2017

My older gelding was showing the majority of signs of Cushings, dipped back, thicker hair coat, loose teeth, sore hooves but with Succeed and some other non medical products his symptoms and blood work are back normal. He loves the taste of it and since he cannot have cookies, the Succeed has become his cookie. I am a board certified Animal Naturopath and recommend this product to my clients' horses showing GI issues or under stress. I have never seen Succeed not improve a horse yet.

Seems to work

Hokie85 September 27, 2017

I just switched to using SmartPaks to deliver this monthly. My horse has been on this product now since his last colic surgery (one of two). I use the syringes to be sure he gets all of the supplement. I've been a little disappointed with the consistency of the paste from SmartPak. I have difficulty plunging the whole amount as the oil seems to have separated from the dry matter making it almost impossible to get it all out. I'm giving this a try for several months but may move back to buying it locally. I have not ever had this dispensing problem when bought at the feed store.

Miracle for my new horse

Kris July 8, 2021

My new horse was very sensitive in the flank area, upset getting tacked up, blanketed, sprayed and had an overall grumpy demeanor. He also had loose, yellow manure, painful gas where he'd scrunch up his body, drips down his hind legs all the time. Vet recommended succeed before spending money on tests. His manure changed within 2 weeks and after a few weeks his whole demeanor changed. Because succeed is quite expensive to stay on long term I tried some cheaper hind gut supplements and within 2 weeks all of his symptoms came back and his legs were caked in wet manure again. So back on succeed he went and now he's been on succeed for over 6 months straight and he is calm and happy, his manure is a normal consistency, his hind legs are clean. He still doesn't like being tacked up but all he does now is make a face, no more lashing out at me or trying to move away. I wish it was more affordable but cheaper alternatives didn't work so he is staying on it.

It really works!

Jeanette August 19, 2020

I have 2 horses on Succeed ... one with a history of ulcers, and after my new horse had a series of colics, I added Succeed to his feed regime as well. Both horses are doing wonderfully. My ulcer prone mare hasn't needed a round of GastroGard since starting Succeed; and my gelding hasn't colicked since starting it a couple months ago. My shipment came quickly, and since Succeed has been hard to find on the shelves, I've been grateful to rely on SmartPak as a reliable source. The price hurts (no matter where you buy it), but the results have saved me some expensive vet bills.

Great Product

LoriC December 24, 2020

I'm on my 2nd order & so far it seems to be working. I had a 2 week lapse after my 1st order due to automatic ship so I'm kinda starting over. The only issue is when you start your horse on this product it states to double up the first 5 days. When you do that & are on the auto ship you run out before your next order ships. Otherwise, working so far.

Underwhelmed

FL Rider September 5, 2019

This is my second bucket of Succeed, and I don't see any changes. If the product didn't have such a weird consistency and temperature requirements, I might be willing to try it for a bit longer. My horses don't love it but do eat it. It's a weird powdery consistency, almost clumpy, and they always leave some at the bottom of the bucket. In addition, the product package lists strict temperature requirements. It shouldn't be above 80 degrees, which means that keeping it in the barn in the summer will cause it to spoil. If I felt it was doing wonders, I might stick with it, but it's mediocre at best.

Eh.....Not impressed.

SophiaR September 28, 2019

I feel like I gave this product a fair shot- considering that I had my two horses on it for 9(almost 10) months. My trainer swears by this stuff so I decided to jump on her bandwagon and try it out on my guys. I did a bit of research on this stuff after my trainer talked to me about it. Reviews were good, it had some sort of colic insurance, the products seemed awesome and their site claimed they had all these patents and fancy formulas to provide the horse with optimum digestive protection, etc. Okay. Cool. My horses have....weird acting hindguts, they can be ulcer prone and they're in heavy work, this stuff seems awesome. why not? Honestly, I saw no change in my guys at all. Their performance didn't change and neither did their attitude(neither of which were problems, but the website claims for a change in both so I expected that you know?). Nothing in their physique, behavior, performance.... or even their poo showed me results. Maybe they just never needed it, to begin with. I canceled my orders after feeling like my horses were just eating $104 every 28 days with no turnaround. One horse was cut off from it first (so he was on it like maybe 8 months). The other one is still technically on it.. finishing off his last round these next few days and then not getting it anymore. He's also recently become.. not fond of the supplement! This is just a recent development. He's been picking through his food and trying to avoid it, and ends up leaving half or more than half his grain... I know it's the supplement since he only gets it once a day and eats the grain without it just fine. Good thing I canceled before the next shipment was charged to my card!

I started my TB on this immediately after we finished treating him for a month with gastroguard for ulcers. He isnt a picky eater but would not eat his food with this at first without it being mixed in with oil. In addition it made him super hyper and hot. He was unable to focus while working and hard to manage on the ground. I had hoped he would thrive as others reported and was ready to absorb the high cost but unfortunately I've had to take him off this supplement.
