Don't Ignore Acorn Squash: They are Easy to Roast

Maryanne November 6, 2025

Wonderful winter squash that roasts beautifully. I cut it in half, discard seeds and strings, brush completely with evoo, place cut side down on a foil-lined pan, then roast at 425° for about 1 hour. The squash should be fork tender and the cut surfaces will be gorgeously caramelized. Enjoy!

I bake mine whole in the microwave. Squeeze with a paper towel to know when soft- I get medium size ones and takes about 5-6 minutes to cook. I tgen cut in half, scoop out the seeds, add butter, salt and pepper or cinnamon or cottage cheese and applesauce. can melt a sprinkle of grated cheese too.

Keeps weĺl uncooked. Cut in half from top to bottom, seeds scraped out (dry them %26 eat like pumpkin seeds). Put haves skin side down. put brown bit of brown sugar %26 butler in each half. Cook with little water in the pan at 350⁰ until tender about 30-50 minutes dependingon seze. Eat out of the skin or scope out to share with others.

Use this right away or it will go bad very quickly

Amy October 14, 2025

Use must this acorn squash right away! usually, an acorn squash last quite a while in the fridge in the produce drawer. Not a corn squash bought at Walmart, though! It will go bad within a few days. I've bought acorn squash twice now and it went bad before I could even use it. I just purchased acorn squash a third time, and hopefully the third time's a charm. It's getting really ridiculous with how fast this piece of produce goes bad!!

My Favorite Squash.

Magoo April 26, 2026

I love these in late winter and spring. Only 1 of the 7-8 I got this winter was not great quality. It had been cracked with a 2” scar which caused it to lose the moisture they require to bake. Given the price it’s best to hand pick yours to insure better quality. Since I have most of my things delivered as a plus member I still take a chance on things like this in hopes they are checked by my shoppers. Overall I am all for these even though they are overpriced.

Acorn Squash - Fresh

Michelle May 20, 2026

When someone else picks out your produce, its a hit or a miss. Mostly my experience has been a big miss. The squash is dry and older than i wouldve picked!

I don't know what is going on here. My acorn squash was delivered totally orange and moldy. It seems that when I place an order for delivery, I receive the worst produce or the wrong produce. This doesn't happen with grocery pickup. It seems like we get the worst of the pick with delivery. so who is doing the shopping? Paid Walmart shoppers or the delivery drivers? They both point the finger at the other.

I'm learning that I should get my own produce so far alotof the produce I get seems to be bad.. this was so old it was mostly yellow one side was caved in and it was rotten! I won't even talk about the salad and the cole slaw I tried to get... I've started taking pictures. I do try to get my own produce when I can but I'm super busy and I can't always do that but in my order on Thursday I had to throw away four things. I've taken pictures like I said but I really like you guys and I usually give you five stars and everything but this produce thing is getting out of hand. I feel like the pickers pick the oldest stuff you have and the ugliest I don't understand because I go in right after and you have really nice stuff but I'm not getting it and drive up. I will be getting my own produce but other than that you guys are five stars!

oopsie

Kassandra September 26, 2025

Unbeknown to me I was substituted a miniature tiny little pumpkin and did not get an acorn squash. While, I found this humorous to pull out an itty bitty miniature green pumpkin.I definitely would not have substituted that for acorn squash.

Mold on squash upon arrival.

Becky October 5, 2025

when I took the two squashes I ordered out of the bag, one was fine, but the other one had a circle of mold on it about the size of a quarter. By the next day, it had quadrupled in size, so I didn't dare just cut off that part of the squash and bake it. I had to toss it out. I haven't learned yet how to take a picture with my phone and forward it with future reviews. I'll have one of my children show their technologically mother at their next visit.
