Ambrosia apples are the apples we like best for crispness and taste. They are often hard to find. I always get them whenever they are available. They are large enough for two of us to share one, however sometimes I want one all to myself so I will wash and slice two. I haven't tried baking them, but I understand they are excellent for pies and cobblers, etc. when cooked,
I love ambrosias, they are crispy and juicy, wish they had them for longer time, I eat 2 apples a day it would be great if you handled 5 lb bags, or lower price so getting 2 bags wouldn't be so expensive.
Im surprised about all of the negative reviews concerning apples. My favorite apples are the Ambrosia variety. I get them from my local Walmart in NC and they are always in great condition. Crisp and sweet with only the occasional small bruise. They're firm to the bite and the best apple I've ever had. I use Walmart Pickup all the time here. In fact, we rarely have problems with the fruits and vegetables that I get from them. Every now and then we might get really green bananas but they ripen in a few days.
I got these apples as a replacement on a delivery order a few months ago and OMGOSH I'm so glad I did. I don't care for tart, sour and soft textured 🍎 and now these are my new favorite go to's with Gala being bumped to second place. They're sweet with a crunchy/crispy texture which makes for a perfect dipping 🍎. I'll slice one up, sprinkle a little brown sugar and cinnamon over the slices then dip them in peanut butter (Jif go cups are perfect). Drizzle them with honey and they have a candy apple flavor. Yummy, right!! I've gotten bags that have nice sized apples and I've gotten bags that have smaller apples which I see a lot of ppl complaining about but that's just how it goes. Food demand will cause that!! Poor tree's can only produce so much so fast! I haven't tasted a difference between the two sizes and that's what matters to me! They truly are a delicious 🍎
These apples are amazing. They keep amazingly well, they do not bruise easily and if you cut them. they don't turn brown for days!. They are crisp and sweet. I buy these every week to include in my lunch and would recommend them to anyone that likes apples and wants them to keep without browning.
These apples are my families favorite. Very sweet and flavorful. Price is pretty good for what you get. Nice and crispy as well. They are a little small, but SO good.
When they are fresh - they are the best apples ever! When I ordered Red Delicious 5lb bag they were out and replaced my Red Delicious apples with this bag of Ambrosia Apples (two bags). Oh, my gosh -they were so juicy, fresh, crispy, beautiful, flavorful and the aroma was heavenly with each bit of apple. I decided when I placed my last week's order, I would order these apples instead of the Red Delicious. Boy was I ever disappointed. These had black spots all over them, pruned, and mushy! How disappointing this was. I realize when dealing with perishables you must expect a bad batch from time to time. That said... my shopper should have been more aware and concerned! These apples are some of the best apples I've ever eaten in decades. There are few other varieties of apples that rival Ambrosia apples... but, only a few and most cost A LOT more. I'm hoping this past order was a fluke and my next order of these apples are like the order before.
I always loved apples, but because of the way they are treated to prevent them getting ripe , causes them to be too hard and not as favorable, I hate them ,but still buy them, and they lie in the basket for months, the only way I can eat them is to cook them. I hate it so much!!! It’s not the fault of Walmart I know , and I’m sure there is not much you can do about it. I crave a normal apple so much ! I don’t like hard crisp apples.
You are better off picking a bag yourself. EVERY time I get a bag of apples on my pick up they are rotten and the workers who do this should be ashamed of themself. When I have gotten the ambrosia apples picking them myself or from elsewhere, I really like them. They are a good amount of crisp and sweet and not gritty.
This isnt the first time Ive received ambrosia apples from this store with all kinds of dents and fingernail marks all in the majority of my apples. They are all bruised and look unappetizing. Im trying to upload a photo but it wont let me. Please dont let this happen again.
