Fresh and packed with Bay leaf flavor! Keep in mind that these are MUCH stronger than dried leaves. These can overpower a dish that requires long cooking time quickly if not careful. Dried bay leaves reconstitute %26 release flavor slowly. These are fresh %26 don't mess around. Better for shorter cooking time.
The Fresh Bay Leaves were a surprise because they are really excellent. I would like to see more fresh herbs from this seller. I used these leaves in a soup i made this week and in my own spagetti sauce and a small roast. Really great product.
Honestly, I have to tell you all that this is the first time I have ever purchased fresh bay leaves. So I do not have any past experience to draw from for quality, flavor, texture, etc. So I will just describe what I experienced after delivery. The clamshell packaging was a little harder to open than I thought it would be, so all the leaves ended up on the sink once I popped it open, and they popped right out of the tray. It is a tiny tray, approx 7/8" wide and about 3.5" long, so it is kinda small and hard to grip. I bought these to add to an electric skillet pot roast. The first thing I noticed was that the leaves slid easily over each other, almost like they had a slick polish, so it was a bit difficult to grab them off the countertop to put in the skillet or back in the package. I did not notice any aroma of any kind when I opened the package, even when cooking??? These seemed so dry, and even in boiling broth, they did not soften up at all. So I put them in the skillet because the recipe called for 2 bay leaves. The pot roast came out perfect; however, I honestly don't know if the bay leaves added any flavor.
I was pleasantly suprised to find that Walmart had these fresh leaves I could easily order when my recipe called for them because Id never needed them before and so I never noticed them in store before. Upon ordering I was kind of worried they would not be fresh but again I was pleasantly suprised they were fresh and in perfect conditon. I only needed half and the rest stayed in the fridge for a few days maybe a week more and I could still use the rest with no problem. They smelled nice, spiced my food nicely, and were super convenient for me to get in a pinch for my recipe.
These bay leaves were beautiful! And they held up perfectly in their packaging in the fridge longer than herbs do normally. I was also surprised by how many leaves were in the package - so many that I spread the extras out on a towel on the counter to dry and then stored the dry leaves in a freezer Ziploc for later use. I didn't know you could get fresh bay leaves in North Dakota, especially in the winter, but I'm so glad I found them!
I ordered this for a meal I planned on making that week and after a week of realizing I still haven't used these, I expected them to be wilting. I was very surprised to see them a week later just as good as the day I bought them. typically, I'd expect to throw them away after about 3 days. I ended up using them that day and my dish came out as good as ever.
Other brands seem to be a mixed experience of fresh and browning leaves; this Fresh Produce brand is consistently good quality.
These bay leafs are my go to for just about everything I cook. It gives great added aroma and flavor. The bay leafs always come fresh and in a airtight container.
It's a hit or miss when I get a good bag of oregano leaves and when I don't get one, they're all crumbled up. That's not what I was buying. Disappointing for sure. The packaging might be the problem.
Asked for basil also, I made a delivery order which I never received. It states that it was delivered but it was not. A message said it was 45 minutes delayed. We have children that go to school %26 adults that leave @ 6:30 am for work. I will not be shopping for delivery Again!! Sam is turning in his grave, I know, I am super proud to have work for him directly.
